OP, real or not, thanks for this thread. Every now and then, TB is the gift that keeps on giving. It may help if you divulge the band name. There are a lot of folks here that are in "big name" bands and they usually have no problem saying which one.

And best wishes keeping your mental health issues in control.

Why do I always have to click on such links?? Jeeeez - these guys should be tortured by being forced to watch back their own show on a very high quality stereo so they won't miss any of those faulty notes...

This is btw a very funny thread, regardless it is trolled or not - I would personally just go with rental backline and call it a day. If you just want to have massive feedback on stage but your sound is DIed anyway to FOH, why care? Get your tour-manager to order 4 ampeg fridges - done!! It's not like they provide some ****** SS amps and a 4x10 and you have to take it - order what you want and basta!

I personally second the Traynor YBA300 + Traynor 4x12 NEO rig!!! 2 heads, 4 cabinets and you are 100% sure that each arena is open-air afterwards.

But hey - looking at all those rig rundowns the last couple of years, your request is a little bit outdated. Even Kiss has thrown out their big rigs - and I have not seen much arena-bands lately having cabinets on stage, anyhow. It's all packed up in flightcases behind/under the stage. And I guess the FOH-engineer will make a voodoo-doll of you at about the second gig of your tour because you **** up his room-sound with your feedback-rig! Not to mention the monitor-engineer who will quit his job at the second gig to prenvent becoming a murderer.
I will see Iron Maiden tonight, I will have a look. But from what I know, Steve has one 4x12 cabinet mic'ed behind stage (he used to have 2, but if I remember correctly he has thrown one out because of the room in ed force one). And if he can clearly hear himself on stage (they don't use in-ears iirc) against three marshall-full-tube-powered guitars, then you should be able to do so too with one fridge. Or do you play even bigger stages?

So the consensus is (4) Ampeg 810's and (2) Ampeg classic heads. If you're buying your own rig the Mesa stuff would be pretty nice but make sure you get cases. One thing I resent is that I've used Peavey stuff for years and it's solid stuff. I've seen tour bass players with new Peavey backline gear. Peavey is every bit the workhorse that Ampeg is. I have no experience with the Fender stuff but it sure looks nice. Matter of taste.

Back line junk? Only giving you SS Ampeg and 410s?

If your touring clubs you can get an SVT backline with fridges quite easily, I would imagine touring stadiums they pull out all the stops, you know because of the millions of dollars invested in the friggin' touring machine...

How about #phoney instead of #crazy. You cannot ask for serious advice and then treat this like a big joke especially when real pros are offering real advice for your day dream.

FYI, he said SS ampeg and a 410 for rehearsal, which sounds just fine to me.

Hey guys great thread , I too am in the middle of a large major tour. Just wrapped up a pretty large show at a major venue , the road crew is still trying to stuff my 8 SVT cabs into the semi, I keep telling them not to load the 16 SVT heads in before the cabs. Im gonna have to talk to my major lable about this. Oh well on to the next major show , Freds Bar & Grill ,gotta load in before happy hour.

Well it has been fun, if you do decide you actually want to talk bass instead of criticizing people's gear choices and making arrogant comments we will still be here talking bass.

Maybe next time you will have better luck with "day dreaming of a stadium rig" or "explain stadium rigs to me" because nobody is buying backlines to take on tour, that is just nuts. If they are important enough to buy the backline and haul it around they probably aren't asking for opinions on the internet from strangers, they would probably be telling strangers what they like.

Also, keep the snide comments to yourself next time and you will get a much more friendly atmosphere.

When it comes to touring, what I want and what I need are 2 different things.
Especially if somebody else is footing the bill.
Often the cartage/expediting folks will have a say in that.

Went w/ SS w/ tube preamp section, because previously I'd had glass troubles with the Marshalls, and then the Ampegs.
Techs were running around finding tubes and rentals a lot.

Tried the nightbass system when it first came out, and that went well, except when the pedal connector broke, which it did regularly.
A heads Up: when the manu says parts are easily replaceable anywhere in the world,
they mean you will be replacing them, anywhere in the world.

Don't take it too hard, man. We're just bored and cynical is all. My personal vote would be an SVT+2 810s and a 100 watt Marshall head +2 412s. Biamp it (SVT for big clean low, and Marshall for gritty feedbacky top end). Oh, or the Peavey equivalent. :hiding:
In all seriousness, the Peaveys are legendary for their reliability on the road- which it sounds like you'll need.

And send pics please!

Here is the funny thing: I can play any amp or cab that I want. If I want it I will get it. The majority of my gear is not cheap or common place. The only pieces that is would be my ampeg amp.

So with all my options for amps, there isnt a one that I would take over my Peavey. Its a 400 watt, all tube amp, has an ampeg-ish channel and a fender style tone stack channel. It sounds fantastic.

Not for you? cool. If you have a predetermined idea of what you want, why are you asking in the first place?
