Tube stack for arena rock band!

Exactly,If you are actually playing arenas you don't need that much crap onstage unless it is just for show.

Really, the music needs to come first. And even with an arena-rock band, needing people in that arena to look past everything else and judge your "bass rig" (in quotes because it's just for show) is a little silly, IMO.

I like amps, and I like admiring a nice set-up. But at the arena-rock level, I just don't care - because I know that any nice looking amp on stage has next to NOTHING to do with what I'm hearing. And what I'm hearing is what's important.

I'd much rather have a beer with a guy or gal who just wowed me with tone at a show where I knew gear was a factor and talk about it than "admire" something that was essentially a stage prop.

I don't mean to sound condescending - I really don't. I just think it's a waste of money, whether it's your money or not.

It's just that the C400 is one of the beastliest tube amps there is. If I was going on a real big tour, I'd most likely choose the SVT anyway, if for no other reason than support, you can find them and get them serviced just about anywhere in the world.

....Oh...and they sound pretty nice too... :)

Really not sure if the OP is at the level where he is playing arenas or just yanking our chain. But if he is serious and the guitards think the same way then hopefully they are making some serious money so they can hire roadies and afford a truck that gets about 6 miles to the gallon to haul it all. Otherwise they will be on tour for about 5 minutes or until they run out of money.:)

:hyper: those acoustics are new? those look cool! thats what im thinking.. a wall of cabs and power

Yeah, these are an evolutionary reworking of the original design, by the original designer. I, personally, am totally jonesing for one. Or two!

And as the owner of an SVT 810 for the last 25 years, I will say this: those folded 18" cabs throw sound like nothing else.

you guys, the whole point of getting a wall of power if for the feedback! of course there is a DI for the house, but there has to be a big area for the interaction between the bass itself and the amps. know what im saying or is this Chinese?

I get what your saying, there is a "feel" when playing through a tube amp. If I was in a position to purchase a new rig for touring I would pickup two Ampeg Heritage SVTs with matching 8x10s. A Designs Reddi DI would be a excellent backup, still retain the feel of an amp and full tube sound to the house.

I'm a keyboard player in a band playing arena from time to time and I was serious telling you that you don't need an amp except if you like to feel the air moving when you play. People will ear you much more from the PA and if they don't, it will just make the sound guy job even harder.

Just buy an amp that you like the sound but it won't be for the crowd, it will be for you.

Why not the classic : Ampeg SVT 8x10?

My buddy tours w a huge act everyone has heard of. Hockey arenas, etc. He brings two Ampeg 8x10s and a beat up vintage SVT an a reissue SVT. He uses the vintage stack. The other stack is setup in case the other craps out.
