Tuners upgrade help ?

best tuner upgrade for my Ibanez BTB 7 that fits exactly replacing original tuners without wood modification or further drilling

Plenty of options out there...what are the existing tuners? A photo of the back of the headstock might help.

Also, what is prompting you to replace them? If there's a problem, maybe someone here could help.

They appear to be Gotoh GB7-esque, 3/8" which would lead me to suggest (as always) Hipshot Ultralites, either the US or licensed imports if on a budget.

Yes, either the current version of Gotoh GB7's, or the Schaller mini tuners which are what Gotoh copied to make theirs, or if you don't mind the slight mods, the Hipshot Ultra Lites are the best.

It's pretty hard to go wrong with Schaller, Gotoh, Sperzel, Hipshot...find one with the same hole pattern and go for it. I know that Schaller makes most of their tuners in multiple variations in order to fit most common hole patterns - I assume that other manufacturers do similarly.

Which mods are your referencing? Agreed: Ultralites are the best choice.

The mounting screws on HipShots are in slightly different positions, which may require drilling additional holes in the headstock, and depending on your bass, may need different bushings, or redrill the tuner post holes in your headstock.

I looked at the Ibanez website and the Hipshots should be a direct drop-in....the Ultralites, that is.

Contact Hipshot. They will confirm which tuner you need and what it takes to retrofit.

My local guy really likes the Schallers, when I dropped off my p-bass to upgrade the pickups, and told him I never liked the elephant ear tuners, that's what he recommended.
