I am narrowing my focus this summer to learning Bach's Prelude #1 in C Major. I want to truly nail it, and not get sidetracked playing lots of other things like I usually do.

I am finding it to be nice note recognition exercise. It definitely is helpful in fingerboard mastery. I also think it is a really beautiful composition.Sweet.
Out of interest, what are you hoping to get out of it, and how are you approaching it from a learning perspective?
I can see your approach. I will make a video once I can really play this piece well. I could see playing it in church too.I've been similarly focused on Bach's unaccompanied cello suites. But I quickly came to the realization that I needed to approach them solely for their instructional value rather than as performance pieces. I have no intention to ever perform them publicly. My hope is that the improved technique and musicality gained will inform my playing in whatever performance opportunities I do have.

Here's my one-time effort with the Cello Suite 1 in G, Prelude from last year...
Nice! I intend to learn that piece sometime this year too.

I too am learning this one at the moment...going slowly, I mean sloooowwwly.
My reading sucks so I am focusing on reading, i.e. recognizing and playing the notes on the page, rather than learning the fingering and memorizing the sound, done enough of that already.
