Turbo Rat?!

So I've been looking for a distortion replacement for my MXR M80. I like the M80 for the clean blend/keeping the low end, but wanted something that's more of a "distortion" rather than the overdrive boost that the M80 is good for.

Someone recommended the Turbo Rat, and wanted to hear other opinions on it as far as tone, keeping the lows intact, etc.

Thanks for reading!!

The Turbo Rat will cut lows, but there's a simple mod that removes the bass cut, but also reduces some of the gain. If you want a Rat for bass, the Fuzzrocious Rat Tail is exactly what you're looking for.

If this is a stupid question please forgive me (which means I know it's a stupid question but bear with me) - I'm more of a fuzz and od guy - like b3k and muff-style fuzz territory, but the other day I saw a video somewhere of a guy covering hysteria using a proco rat and it sounded pretty good! I've never really considered a distortion pedal before. Is it normal to use a distortion pedal with fuzz and/or od pedals, or is that just for all-out craziness?

You're already using distortion in a sense if you're using a b3k. It's not really a fuzz machine. It's a overdrive that can push into distortion territory. Yes, totally normal to use any combo of fuzz, distortion, and od.
