... doesn't taste anything like bacon. In fact, it tastes foul no matter how much barbecue sauce you pour on. Why do people eat this stuff?

(Sorry, just did a fridge cleanout-and-eat-what-you-find. Ick. Not even the cats will touch this stuff)

As I so often do, I defer to the late, great Mitch Hedberg:

Mitch Hedberg said:
I hate turkeys. If you stand in the meat section at the grocery store long enough, you start to get pissed off at turkeys. There's turkey ham, turkey pastrami, turkey bologna, turkey bacon. Someone needs to tell the turkey "Man, just be yourself. I already like you, little brother. You do not need to emulate the other animals. You got your own thing goin'.

I prefer it to pork bacon as I tend to rip the fat off regular bacon leaving little behind.

If you can find an Irish or British food store, grab some "Back Bacon" from there. Bacon on that side of the Atlantic tends to be cut deeper and from a meatier part of the pig.
