Turn it around ... stupid customer stories.

I used to work at a home medical store with all women, we would take turns taking the walkin customers, it was my turn and in walks this incredibly gorgeous Goddess, we're talking 10 and I was suddenly VERY happy that day, she's looking for a product that helps with shoulder posture, it wraps around people's chest and keeps their shoulders pushed back so they don't slump, I walk her over to the boxes and look at the sizing and the sizes are in chest measurements, not wanting to say it out loud I point at the spot on the box and she reads it and then says to me...I'm 34C...except those aren't chest measurements, those are BREAST measurements, it was an awesome customer experience.

I was the stupid customer.

I was 19 or so, tired, distracted, in a rush, and nearly broke. In the Guitars Etc. in Seattle around '83 I was at the counter asking for a set of guitar strings. The salesman plops two sets on the counter and says "string sets are two-for-one today and tomorrow."

Not fully comprehending this simple message, I shove one pack of strings back to him and say "No, I can only afford one."

That's not far from:
(Pizza shop person) "Do you want it cut in six or eight pieces?"
(Customer) "Six- I don't think I can eat eight".

"Really?! Are you sure?? Would you like a second opinion ma'am??"

Similar story:

Working at the music store one day. It was me, my boss, and another guy. It was a slow day so we are all doing random stuff arround the store when this hot blone chick walks in. She basicly was a look alike for Jenna Jameson. The minute she walks in all heads (and I do mean ALL) turn. The other sales associate gets to help her and me and the boss start listening in. She was shopping for a guitar pack for her nephew and was trying to flirt with the other associate to get the price lowered. This went on for about 15-20 minutes while the sales guy showed her the different brands. She selects one and then starts laying it in thick at the counter. She says something like "Come on, can't you bring the price down just a little" all the time while batting her eyes and gving her this big grin. The sales guy looks up at her and with a dead-pan expression on his face says "Sorry honey, but you are not that good looking" and goes back to ringing her up.

Me and the manager were on the floor laughing for a good 20 minutes afterwards.

I work in retail and my number one. Problem is as follows.
I see customer unfolding a stack of shirts holding them out one by one as if to gauge size, then throwing it to the side.
I go up and ask "do you need help finding a size? "
"oh, no everything is good thanks"
I can no nothing but stand by as they finished unfolding the stack.
Then they turn to me and ask "do you have any of these in a medium?"

On the other hand, I get customers like this 80+ year old guy who took his lap top to Mexico, visited Mexican porn sites and got computer viruses. TWICE. He was funny as hell, real embarrassed, took all the blame for what he did. But still.....

Heh... Reminds me of when I took my virus-infected laptop to a repair shop. He asked if I could think of where I got that virus. I answered with something snarky like "oh, probably while searching various church websites for bake sales, or maybe from that teaching aid site for disabled kids, or maybe from that Columbian midget porn site. I'm not sure which one." Unlike your 80+ year old friend, I don't embarrass easily.

I currectly work for a medical software company. I am constantly surprised just how clueless doctors are.

I worked for a while in a hospital. I was surprised by how clueless the medical industry is in general. Not from the idiot doctors or anything like that. It became very obvious that there are certain parts of the medical industry where we are still very much in the dark ages. While it's amazing what can be done with surgury, implants, and integrating microelectronics with the human body, it's stunning how little we know about various pharmaceutical drugs and how they react with the body. Also, it's amazing how little we know about why certain ailments occur and how to cure them or even just stop the symptoms to ease a patient. There's a whole lotta "Um... I think it might be this, but I could be totally wrong. Try doing or taking this, as it works with a whole lotta people, although sometimes it can be very bad for the patient. Good luck, and call me back in a few weeks if it's worse!"

I worked at a music store years ago. Woman came in with a guitar she'd purchased for her son a couple of weeks previously. "I think this needs to be adjusted or something," she said. The owner took it, played it a bit, and said, "It just needs to be tuned." Her reply: "Don't they do that at the factory?" :)

I currently work for a doctor's office and I'm surprised at how clueless the computer industry is in general. Not from the idiot technical support people or anything like that. Every time we have a problem with our computer there's a whole lotta "Um I think it might be your software, but I could be totally wrong. Try doing or taking this, as it works with a whole lotta computers, although sometimes it can be very bad for the harddrive. Good luck, and call me back in a few weeks if the whole system freezes up!". ;-)

True, but if an IT guy gives you the wrong advice, worse case is you buy a new computer... a doctor gives you the wrong advice, the worst case is you DIE!

I was working as a floor supervisor in a casino and one of the players asked me for a meal comp. I was trying to take care of about 5 other things at the time, so it took me about 10 minutes to get the comp printed. The player told me, "It took you so long to get me this comp I lost $300. I'm going to tell your supervisor." Needless to say, I was horrified that I would be reported for raising the "take" for the day.

I used to work for a local electronics/refigeration wholesaler, and I had a guy come in and order several tubes, and other parts, for his T.V. No problem, so far, had everything in stock. Wrote up the order, and asked how he was paying, on account, cash, etc. Never having seen this person before, I figured probably cash. He asked to have it put on the account of a local T.V. repair shop. Should have seen the look on his face when I asked him when he started working for my father.
"Oh, I'll pay cash" was the next line in that story. :D

I worked as tech support for an ISP.

I'll just leave that there. :D

I do Tech Support for one of the biggest cellphone companies in Canada. I know exactly what you mean.

The absolute dumbest call I have received(more then once) are from customers who just received their brand new phone via UPS. the conversation generally goes like this.

them: "I just got this new phone and it's doesn't work. What kind of junk did you send me anyway?"

me: "What exactly doesn't work?"

them: "The screen is black and nothing works on it."

me: "Ok....let's go ahead and press and hold that red button for a few seconds."

them: "It works. You're a genius! What did you do?"

me: "I got you to press the power button. We generally don't ship them with the power on."

them: "ohhh".........click
