As much as I like a unique and personal approach doing something, on the other hand to copy something/somebody is imho a totally legit way of learning. Once you know how it´s done it is up to you to use it in your own way. In fact we all copy somebody, mostly unknowingly... it is just the way things evolve. Victor Wooten´s song "Bass Tribute" says it all I guess.

I have no doubt that Joel591 can come up with a nice lick all by himself...

Learning others' material is one of the best ways to expand your own musical vocabulary and help set you down the path of finding your own voice.

I like this, but I have always had my own style on the slap triplets. I use my thumb and left hand mute a lot for ghost notes. It always made the gospel guys I knew crazy to learn it.lol. That being said, I am going to mess with the pop first triplet and try and blend into what I do. I just don't slap that much anymore, so to try something new now and then is pretty fun.

It was just a clip of a single lick, played by many over the years in various styles, on various instruments and genres.....just one little lick in a compilation of songs.

That's the one Roy, and as Jon mentioned we can take on ideas then tweek them to our use or style or blend them in to something......I think this is what the kids today do with loops......because the want to create something original LOL..clip now saved for future use.

That's the way I see it. I actually used to practice slapping drum rudiments and it was a great way to develop fexibility (most of which has since been lost ).
