Does it matter which wire (red or black) is connected to which tab on a tweeter? I've tried both ways, and can't get any sound out of my Pyramid TW46 tweeter. Also, is there a way to verify damage by looking at the tweeter?

*Most* tweeters are wired in reverse phase from the crossover (red wire to neg.)

The only way to physically see if there is damage is to take the horn/tweeter apart.

Most have a couple of bolts on the rear. When removed, the diaphragm can be removed to give a visual inspection of the voice coil.

I took a quick look online at the model you listed, and I can't tell if the diaphragm is replaceable or not.

Even if it is, they can almost run the cost of a replacement tweeter.

Yes, it does, and no, you can't. You can use a DMM to test for a blown voice coil.

Thanks. There is nothing on the tweeter to differentiate the tabs, so I guess I'm out of luck. In any case it doesn't work. This is in a used cab that had the wires disconnected.

What type audio source are you using? If bass guitar, you may not hear anything, depending on how high the crossover point. Try running a hi-fi music source such as cd, Ipod, etc. These have high frequency content that can easily be heard if the tweeter is working.

It was bass guitar, but have since tried with an ipod.... nothing, tried both wire configurations. The cab also has a tweeter level control, which I'd think would have made an audible hiss sweep. Thanks for the suggestions; probably the cheapest next step would be to just buy a new tweeter, and then take it to a tech if that doesn't work. Hopefully the new tweeter will tell me which wire to put where (have determined that red is indeed positive).
