Two Notes Audio User Group

I just got a TN Opus and I'm very impressed with its sound quality and its versatility.

I thought I would start this thread for talkbass TN users or those interested in their products.

I've been wearing out my fingers playing bass since I got it this Friday.

I've come up with some really good sounding presets and will probably share some of them in the coming days.

Feel free to add impressions, presets, pedalboards, questions, whatever.

Here is the last preset I finished working on (in general, I haven't been using cabinets in the presets, but this one was had excellent and surprising results).

Please help me understand the Opus.
I can put it on my pedalboard and simulate Preamp, Poweramp? and Cabinet (plus some effests). I can for example buy a virtual Mesa Boogie 1x15 Cabinet at Two notes, which is as I understand it an official version. I can then download it to the unit and have it simulated with me via headphones or DI out.
But what about the Amp? I can not buy the virtual TT800 (Gibson ,Mesa, Twonotes, I don't know if it exists), the official Ampeg SVT Suite... or can I?

I don't believe Two Notes (or Mesa) have done captures of the Subway amp heads. Nor has any other amp manufacturer. In fact, my understanding is that there still aren't a TON of options for bass-specific amps in the library, but most of them (if not all) are created in-house at Two Notes. I'm still using a Torpedo CAB M+ so I don't have access to the amps either way, but that is what I've heard and seen anecdotally thus far. It is a similar process to their cabinet offerings, in that they are doing captures of real bass cabs, and then making the DynIR's out of them.

It will be interesting to see down the line if there are "official" amp offerings being produced by people like Mesa, or whomever, that have partnered up to do their own DynIR captures for Two Notes units.

FWIW, I primarily use a Subway 2x12 capture done by Mesa in my CAB, and I love it! My pedalboard has a tube preamp on it, which renders any need for the Opus somewhat moot, since it is giving precisely what I want sonically already. So even though I haven't tried it, I expect that Mesa 115 capture is worth grabbing from the TN store :bassist:

In fact, here, I was able to grab some screenshots. I'd say 90% of the time, I'm using my "Clean" cab, but I do have a "Dirty" one too that I get to rock out on sometimes.

I opted for a particularly light touch on the clean one, since it sounds so great out of the box. I boosted around 4kHz to help give it a touch of "clean DI" flavour, and that extra top end content which most engineers and FOH techs are used to encountering.

You can put the Opus wherever is convenient.

There is an adjustable Noise Gate.

There are 12 preamp models, 3 of which are specifically for bass, but you can use guitar preamps for bass as well, with or without modifying the tone, OR you can bypass the preamp stage.

There are 16 different power amp models - 4 basic tube types (6L6, KT88, EL34, & EL84) and each can be run in Pentode or Triode mode and Single End or Push Pull, OR you can bypass the power amp stage.

There are 6 specific bass cabinets and a whole bunch of guitar cabs (which can also be used for bass) OR you can bypass the cabinet section.

There are a bunch of microphones and you can use 1 or 2 mics at a time and move the mics around OR you don't have to use mics (I found that even if you don't use a cabinet, the mics still affect your sound).

There is a Post FX processor with 3 sections -
1. EQ, that has Guitar 5-band, Bass 5-band, or Custom 5-band semi-parametric + adjustable HPF & LPF;
2. Enhancer - (refer to post #7);
3. Reverb- (refer to post #7).
You can use any, all, or none of these sections.

You can change the line out signal point to earlier in the processing chain from that of the DI out.

The headphone out signal will have the same processing as what you set up for the DI out.
~~~~~~~~
As far as what is available at this moment, I'd suggest you communicate with their help desk.
Here is the link to the Opus page on the Two Notes website.
Here is the link to the Opus User Manual.
I prefer to modify existing presets or create new ones from scratch.
To me, guitarists are more concerned about getting the tone they want with the help of cabinets.
As a bassist, it depends on the tone you are after - if you want the sound of your bass guitar, only louder, then you probably don't want to include a cabinet at all.
I feel fairly confident that the more bassists buy these, there will be more bass-specific add-ons - I already suggested a GK model and a Mesa M9 model.
I know I didn't answer all of your questions, but I hope I helped to point you in the right direction to find the answers.
I uploaded these two presets to the TN exchange server, I hope some may find them useful!
I'm looking forward to how this community will grow in the future!
The development team has done an awesome job!
There was an issue in my presets showing up under the Opus section of the exchange, so I deleted them, renamed them on my Opus, and uploaded them again.
Here are the two links to the two presets:
@sloppy_phil & @John D Harris : Thanks to both of you. It sounds interesting. I am the type of player who will ever prefer the "real" setup, but there is no denying the convenience of going "light". Not only going FOH, even just silent practice at home. Too bad, that you can't buy virtual amps like you can with cabs. My perfect idea would be to have a real, and the very same virtual rig (I know the headphones will make a difference in sound). I guess that either amp out to Opus, or trying to match the overall sound via eq and obviously the same cab will do the trick though. Thanks again.
p.s.: Buying an amp or cab and getting the virtual one from its manufacturer included - that would be nice.
After playing with the RNB-AF-JD01, I decided it needed more tweaking, so I deleted it from the exchange server for now.
Follow up question.
Is there a pure, clean poweramp only? The idea would be Opus into either FOH, headphones or clean poweramp plus the real selected cabinet.
The closest would be the KT88 run with the Volume level at or below 50%.
You can also use the EQ section without any other section and then boost it with the Output section - I have a preset that is EQ only that I'm still tweaking.
Does anyone else have trouble getting their (older) Cab M to connect to the new software?
Ross from Two notes here - you shouldnt have issues on the software side but you may be using the wrong cable type. Are you using the cable included in the box? I ask as this format comes in 2 varieties (Charging and Data cables) and it is the latter that you need in this instance.
