Two Notes Audio User Group

Hey guys, just picked up an opus today. I was messing with it trying to figure out a workable sound. I have a Broughton SV-Pre before it that I'm using for the preamp. I have 3 stages of drive before and a micro synth. I really only play at church nowadays. I'm trying to see if anyone has a similar setup that can help to dial in a good sound. I'm going for a sound like lucascorts on IG.
Thanks for getting in touch! Sorry for the late reply, I was out of the office last week on Vacation! In this instance, you would be best served turning the preamp section in OPUS off - however you may find the poweramp emulation super useful as a tone shaping solution post your pedal chain! In terms of purchasing cabinets, you simply need to purchase these from our site using your Two notes Account Credentials (please make sure you have registered your device using the app beforehand and have a Two notes account setup). Then, once purchased, connect OPUS to your computer, fire up the Torpedo Remote Desktop application and head to the cabinet manager — your new cabinets will be available here, ready to port into OPUS' internal memory. If you need any additional info here, please let me know!

Hi Ross. I have a technical question regarding TwoNotes torpedo captor 16 ohm. I'm originally a guitar player of many years. I have a Marshall jcm 800 100w head and 16 ohm quad . If I purchased a 16ohm torpedo captor , to use with my marshall set up, could I ALSO use it with my ampeg pf50t , which runs a 4 ohm speaker system, using the THRU jack, ONLY using it as a di with on board bass cab sim...? From my eager knowledge, I'm thinking I can, but, I thought I'd check with you..(I'm often mistaken with modern gear)

I'll tag him for you, not sure how often he checks on these threads.

The way you've stated it, I could not give you an answer, as it is not clear to me exactly how you will have the rig set up.

Paging: @Ross Davies with regard to the previous post!

Thanks for reaching out — great question!

You can certainly use this with the THRU output for your PF50T providing you have a 4Ω cabinet connected to the THRU — when using the THRU output your amp will only see the load of the connected cabinet and therefore you will have an impedance match across your system. The Captor can then essentially be used as a DI to FOH, a Mixer, Interface etc. Let me know if this helps and if you have any other questions, I am here to assist!

Thanks mate, that's what I thought. Iv already ordered one.. I love TwoNotes stuff..

If anyone is looking for a transparent active cab to run the Opus or Revolt into, I found this:

After looking at a lot of options, I think the Yamaha DZR10 might be a great solution - the frequency range is 44Hz - 20kHz (@ -10dB); 137dB Max SPL; and 39.5 lbs.

Pretty crazy for a 10" woofered cab.
Looks pretty cool! Will definitely be checking this out - Thanks so much for the suggestion! :)

Iv tried powered PA speakers , for Bass, before. I would suggest that u take, the manufacturer spec sheets, with a grain of salt. Even so, 44htz at -10 bd, is basically in audible.. try find specs at -3db, then u may be closer to your expectations..
I would suggest at least a 12" + horn, or preferably a 15" + horn . Don't confuse woofer, for a sub. Any of these 2 way powered speakers, are designed to run with a powered sub. Even then only hi powered, higher end systems consisting of a 2 way, and a sub. will be flat down to 50 Hz..
I hope that al makes sense.

It's fine if you don't believe their specs, but 10dB down from 137dB is not basically inaudible.

Have you measured the frequency response of your Bergantino cabinets (in your member profile)?

The website specs them down to 40Hz - do you think that rating is 3dB down?

I would "almost" guarantee it is at least 6dB down if not 10dB down.

I've looked at the frequency response graphs of the DZR10 and it looks like it's 3dB down at 50Hz - that is plenty good to give a strong 2nd Harmonic of a low 'B', which for me is all that I need.

Certainly, if I were playing with a heavy hitting drummer and a couple of unrestrained guitarists, I would also need decent PA support with its subwoofers.

Not everyone has the same needs as me, and for almost anyone, I believe the DZR10 would work for providing "stage" sound for a bassist.

I'd love to use the DZR12 or DZR15, but they are heavier than I care to wrestle with.

I'm not trying to be argumentative and I know some manufacturers fudge their numbers.

I've been wrong before, so don't take my word as the gospel.

On a slightly different note, allow me to ask a "settings" question...

I use my Cab M+ all the time and have enjoyed trying new cabs and amp settings. It seems to me that one of the strengths of the Two Notes solution is the amp simulation where you can choose tubes and kind of build your own amp head. That feature could definitely be explored more for future versions, I would think. I use Genzler Magellan preamp that works nicely with this setup.
This week, I have kind of fallen back in love with the Fender Bassman cab sim. It just sounds really good with my bass (at least until I change again -- the Markbass, Ampeg, and Eden cabinets are all winners too, it depends on what I'm playing).
So my question is: what amp settings should I aim for (tube type, contour, depth, etc.) if I want to make an amp that best matches the 1968 Bassman cabinet?
Thanks!

Ross from Two notes here, thanks for reaching out. I personally like the standard preamp set to bass with a 6L6 tube configuration (Push-Pull) - I then keep the poweramp settings relatively neutral but play with the contour a little to scoop the mid-range a touch. This usually gets me a great Bassman style tone. If you send me your settings as a screenshot, I can definitely make some suggestions for you!

Here are my settings. I tend to also choose the PP 6L6... What do you think?

It looks good to me - although I use the Preamp in C.A.B M+ - in this the preamp is disabled and can be turned on by clicking the PREAMP tag at the top of the preamp block. I tend to drive the Volume a little bit more - around 1 or 2pm - as this will give a little more poweramp saturation. Let me know if this helps!

But I like my Genzler!! I also have a SushiBox More between them. Pretty smooth sound with the Cab M.
Ah, no problem at all! In that case, you might want to use a touch of the EQ just to refine your end tone - the Body on the enhancer will also add a bit more weight to your tone — something I find really useful in a live context! Would love to hear the Genzler if you get a chance to send over some audio at some point! :)
