typecasted actors

I think Estrada didn't get hired because he wasn't a good actor, lol, not because of typecasting. Chips was a hit for a while, but it was cheesy even for the time. And it didn't have a huge cultural impact like Star Wars. Hamill, I can kind of see it, but I'm not sure he was all that much of an actor, either.

When I think of typecast actors, I think of people who got hired repeatedly for small variations on the same character but made it work in a bunch of different movies/shows.

The other three aren't as bad, but I could not agree more with Will Farrell. He's got one character (which is successful, so I'd admire him as a business person, but not as an actor)

I see Forest Gump every time I watch Da Vinci Code or Angels and Demons. Casting Tom Hanks as Robert Langdon was the only thing I'd change about those movies.

Samuel L. Jackson is always cast as a badass.

Will Patton always plays the guy who runs the show, and never really says much.

Timothy Olyphant is always a cocky, stone-faced hardass.

Emilio Rivera is generally cast as the angry Hispanic gangster.

While it's not much of a flick, The Cell did cast Vince Vaughn against type as FBI agent Peter Novak and he did a decent job, although not quite as good as Bill Murray playing Larry Darrell in The Razor's Edge or Steve Martin as Michael McCann in A Simple Twist of Fate.

Even though all 3 did well in dramatic roles (Bill Murray especially), I've always had trouble seeing someone known for comedy as right for any dramatic role.

If Will Ferrell appears in a movie, I don't go. Can't stand his idiot schtick.

Generally the same for Adam Sandler - playing a moron isn't entertaining - but I did find that Happy Gilmore was fun. But he's less irritating than Ferrell.

And Ben Stiller seems to play the same guy who can't assert himself. He occasionally rises above this, but not often.

What about Michael Keaton? I think he did a great job with the Batman movies and a few of the other more serious (if you consider Batman serious :p) roles he has been in.

He was funny as a rubber crutch in Johnny Dangerously, but the whole flick was that way. Almost as funny just for the sake of it as Yellow Beard. He was a bit over the top in Beetle Juice and after that it was if he lost his sense of humor.

He was an excellent batman, but the batman comes with so many cool props it's hard not to be good as batman. Val Kilmer even pulled that one off.

He also did well as a somewhat humorous, self absorbed, almost bumbling fed as Ray Nicolette in Jackie Brown.

Strictly a personal opinion, but for the most part, as a lead (dramatic or otherwise) and focus of a picture, he tries so hard I'm tired for him by the end of the movie. He more than carries his own water in an ensemble cast like Jackie Brown, but otherwise it's been quite a while since Michael Keaton as a main character has blown my dress up.

Not that I'd ever wear a dress or anything...since they never seem to have them in my size when I shop...but we were talking about actors weren't we??:)
