I wonder why Hamill got typecast so bad, when Harrison Ford was able to go onto do other stuff. I guess Indiana Jones is what saved him from being typecasted so early.

You could add Carrie Fisher to that. She'll always be Princess Leia.

I saw Leslie Nielsen as a cowboy on Wagon Train the other day. It was filmed in 1960, and he still had dark hair. It was a very serious role, but I couldn't stop laughing because all I could see was Frank Drebin.
Yes, I suppose Carrie Fisher's career wasn't totally destroyed by Star Wars. But whever I think of Carrie Fisher though, I always think of her in Blues Bros. trying to kill John Belushi with a flamethrower.
Billy Dee Williams, speaking of Star Wars.... he will never be Lando to me. He will always be the Schlitz guy.
I remember when I was younger there was this actor named Henry Silva who always played the bad guy in every movie he was in, going back to as far as I can remember. He had this sinister look about him which made him perfect as the villain, but in real life I'm sure he was probably a really nice guy. He got steady work and good money being typecast, which in Hollywood is not a bad thing, considering how fickle the movie industry can be.

That being said, there are tons of B list actors who can have very long careers. Harvey Keitel comes to mind.

If I see him on anything from Predator to Happy Gilmore, all I can think is "damn, that's Apollo Creed".

Sylvester Stallone. Every time I see him I think either Rocky or Rambo. That could also have to do with the fact that 99.99 9/10% of the time I do see him, it's either in a Rocky or Rambo movie.

William Shatner and Leonard Nimoy do well in other roles, but whenever I watch a movie that has either of them in it, I always end up thinking about what Star Trek episode was my favorite...
