I did think you meant in real life. My bad. And don't get me wrong, I'm far from a fan of his. I think it's just envy. Pudgy weed sucking dude with pubes for a head of hair is wicked successful (i.e. rich)! Life ain't fair! Haha.

I could deal with working enough as an actor to be called typecast. What's the old saw about crying all the way to the bank?

Don't get me wrong I really enjoy good acting, but for every Hendrix there's plenty of faceless sidemen making a good living with the same tools.

I don't care what you call me, just get my name right on the check. :D

John Wayne was just not a good actor. He was definitely before my time, but I've seen a lot of his movies, and I really just don't understand why people thought (and still think) he was some kind of legendary actor.

Also, Michael J. Fox will always be either Alex P. Keaton or Marty McFly.

I suspect you haven't seen The Searchers, The Quiet Man or The Shootist. In all three, Wayne did an outstanding acting job.

Actually, this question was raised throughout his career - some folks will never be convinced that he could act; others saw great depth in many of the characters he played. He made more than 200 movies, which indicates that more people found him to be worth watching than those who did not.

Generally the same for Adam Sandler - playing a moron isn't entertaining - but I did find that Happy Gilmore was fun. But he's less irritating than Ferrell.

And Ben Stiller seems to play the same guy who can't assert himself. He occasionally rises above this, but not often.

Thank goodness someone around here thinks the same as me. I absolutely cannot stand Will Ferrell. I could only watch about 30 minutes of Anchorman before I had to shut it off, I was losing too many brain cells! The stupidest movie EVER! I agree about Adam Sandler being less irritating than Ferrell - but very slightly so. I won't go to any of his movies either. I don't mind Ben Stiller, his movies are OK - Walmart $5 bin material, but OK.

have we had Tom Cruise yet? it's not so much a specific role as a "type":

- he's a talented, plucky, yet unconventional spy/pilot/barman/racer/sports agent
- he overcomes a series of professional and romantic setbacks
- he becomes a very good spy/pilot/barman/racer/sports agent
- film ends
