typical "please do the work for me" kind of advice

Hi Friends, thinking about buying a new 5 string bass. I have an old warwick which is fantastic, but I need a back-up and the tone isn't doing it for me.. really, it's just time for a change. I'll keep it around, because I know I'd regret selling it.. anyways!

I play mostly classic rock in cover bands as well as play in an origional rock band that has two guitarists. Kind of indie/bluesy pink floyd-ish stuff.

I like having an R'n'b tone, some punch but I like have a good low B that's balanced in terms of volume so I don't have to use a limiter or eq when I'm playing something where I'm using the B quite a bit.

Cost would be somewhere around 1500 max.. what are some suggestions before I begin doing research? I play through a db 700 through an ampeg svt 410 hlf if anyone is wondering.. thanks! Love these forums

I just got a Fender American Standard Precision V. The B string is great on this bass. Pretty knarly in stock form. Under $1500.

A MIM might do the trick for you, too. I just found a killer deal on my AM STD.
