I think typical talkbass is a mob mentality when an innocent question gets jumped on and OP is belittled and sarcastic replies are given
Negative: Constantly reviving the debate of Squier vs. Fender.
Positive: Seasoned pros giving advice to total amateurs (such as myself) without talking down to them.

I believe this is what happens when one is admonished for stepping on the lawn of 100% of the Grumpy Old Farts Club.
Ex. "While selling Girl Scout cookies, I tried to save a few steps, by crossing the lawn. @slobake quickly jumped from behind a window, onto a partial roof, and publicly lownered me."

No matter what question you ask, certain people reply:

You need a P Bass with flats
The tone is in your fingers
If you can't achieve something, the answers are those first 3 things.
Or you ask a very specific question asking for answers within certain parameters and you get answers wildly outside of that criteria. Someone calls it a Troll Thread.

Positive: I’ve been introduced to people here that have become true friends. Discovered gear that makes wonderful low frequencies.

These days, any thread that starts as an un-related topic and ends about flats is "typical talkbass". Another major "typical talkbass" annoyance to me is when a bass is referred to as "she" or "her".

typical talk bass - when I see it outside of talk bass, it usually means a bunch of guys that argue over minutiae instead of grabbing whatever bass, plugging into whatever amp and playing.
"Typical Talkbass" is just an unnecessary, unhelpful, negative response from a member who has nothing better to add to a topic.
Sorry if its been said already but I actually know a few TBers that left for good due to the "Fender is God" experienced and have used that expression you quoted. My 2..

I encourage my students to seek information online, I often suggest Talkbass.
I have since learned that two of my students had they typical TB welcoming party and the immediately got soured on the experience. I think one of them had the audacity to suggest he enjoyed his 4x10 and 1x15 pairing. I now have to give people a warning chat before coming to the site...
this, mix in a hint of sexism and racism.
I'm not going to lie, the "elitists" have almost driven me completely off this forum.
