A place where many experienced people give good advice to schleps like me.
Tone woods discussed.
As with all forums, the occasional troll visits and gets blasted.
Just a generally pleasant forum which sometimes is about the only way to get certain typs of musical information.
Typically entertaining.
The only place where you can find out the best bass, carrots, codpiece, etc. for metal.
By the way, what is the best metal for bass? Brass maybe? We need more discussions about tone metals and tone plastics.
A place where drummers, band leaders, and guitar players are often reviled.
A place where I generally have no new alerts.

I'm not going to lie, the "elitists" have almost driven me completely off this forum.

What "elitists"? Everyone says that people talk badly about Squier or whatever, but I have yet to see that. They'll gladly talk about their Sadowsky, etc, etc but I haven't seen anyone saying that if you don't have a "brand x" you suck. I have said that a Fender US P bass at $1200 is a bargain compared to most other instruments, especially orchestra.

I encourage my students to seek information online, I often suggest Talkbass.

I have since learned that two of my students had they typical TB welcoming party and the immediately got soured on the experience. I think one of them had the audacity to suggest he enjoyed his 4x10 and 1x15 pairing. I now have to give people a warning chat before coming to the site...

I would be curious to see the thread. I don't normally see disrespect in those threads so much as information as to how it could be a problem.

I would say (among a lot of other things) typical talkbass is a user asking "help me with this dangerous and/or questionable idea" and then getting salty when the advice comes in.

Other examples might include fierce loyalty to strings, theory on how to open a new bass after shipping (i prefer to put it in a giant vacuum bag and sous vide to room temperature), an aversion to learning anything about music besides bass lines and one octave major scales, blissful self unawareness about being the problem in their band, the crippling back pain that comes from paying a bass 2 ounces overweight, and a certain user trying to sell everyone fender rumble amps with all the subtlety of a carnival barker.

Compared to loads of other music forums I think this place generally has a very good discussion climate.

Typical talkbass to me is the bashing of drummers and guitarists couse we all know theyre annoying and inferior to the great bass instrument

I want to spray nitro white vinyl sealer today, the humidity is dropping. I heard that below 50% is the mark, but I’m wondering if it matters whether I spray the sealer in humid conditions, or does it only apply to clear coats, colors, etcetera? This is an exercise in patience, of which I have little.

I guess most haven't encountered it yet as I have. People are quoting people and tagging their response with, "typical talkbass." I think @Stevorebob got what I meant right out of the gate. It seems like an arrogant, demeaning, and childish putdown people are starting to enjoy using.

I vote that anyone using those words is instantly banned !!!!!! If someone doesn't like it here, well...

For me, "Typical Talkbass" runs through my mind when I see yet another new thread asking "P or J?" or any other topic that has been discussed ad nauseum despite the fact there's a search function.

Also, I roll my eyes every time a new brand/model/whatever is trending. Pages and pages of folks talking about how this is the one, and then a month or two later, they're all selling the damned thing in the classifieds. "Typical Talkbass"

Oh well, I still love it here and will continue to buy the membership for as long as I'm breathin.

Yeah, I've seen it used a couple times here recently. And yes, seems a bit like the "I'm above this" vibe going on. With some of the replies I've read lately, I ask my self why they even bother reading in the first place.

OMG This! On page 3 the player makes a decision and announces it. Hell, he could say he's selling the gear in question, and posters will continue for 2 more pages tying to outclever each other. I find it hilarious.

There certainly is typical TB (eg Fender/Squier being the alpha/omega of the bass). This reflects the bass community "beliefs and folklore". But once you filter this out, you get very valuable information from knowledged people.

Oh man, this could mean a lot of things.

There are plenty of situations on here where that response could be used lol. I guess it's just a way of saying "yet again, this has happened here".
Could be anything as there is a myriad of things here that would qualify as typical.
Id start listing them but I would want to upset any gentle feelings... which ironically.. is also typical tb
