Typical Talkbass...

I vote carrots. :D

I have never used the expression "Typical Talkbass". I think when people use that phrase, they are referring to several things.

1. People who state opinions as facts.

2. People who expect everyone to agree with their point of view and get defensive when someone expresses a different view.

3. People who have very little experience yet continue to offer advice as if they are an expert.

4. Hypocrisy. I mentioned this in a post about BMI suing venues which have cover bands but do not pay licensing fees to BMI. We have all seen hundreds of posts complaining the venues do not want to pay a fair price for bands or expect bands to pay for free. Some of these same TB members have also complained about BMI suing venues for not paying fees. The hypocrisy lies in the fact that BMI operates as a non-profit and the fees collected go to the artists. You can't complain about not getting paid and then complain that BMI is ensuring that artists get paid.

It's not just Talkbass. These attitudes are evident in all areas of social media.

My question is if people are unhappy with responses and refer to them sarcastically as "Typical Talkbass", why do you bother posting anything at all?

LOL... this thread took a different direction, but I'm kinda glad it did :).

I guess most haven't encountered it yet as I have. People are quoting people and tagging their response with, "typical talkbass." I think @Stevorebob got what I meant right out of the gate. It seems like an arrogant, demeaning, and childish putdown people are starting to enjoy using.

I vote that anyone using those words is instantly banned :) !!!!!! If someone doesn't like it here, well...

Kinda reminds me of gui****, but its a little different... gui**** was just stupid. This is stupid and arrogant.

But hey, whatever - it's my birthday!!!!!!
Ya know, that’s just TYPICAL TALKBASS to slip in it’s your birthday or some other personal significant bit of information. It happens all of the time on here.
:roflmao::roflmao::roflmao:
I ‘keed’
Happy Birthday @Joe Nerve :hyper:

Eh, you guys are alright. ;)

Coming from the UK where stuff costs a bit more now, and our used market isn’t really as saturated as the US - peak TB for me is US folks saying, “oh yeah, just buy it used for [XXX price]”, which will inevitably be some kind of totally unattainable screaming deal for us UK folks!

It’s like watching the ice cream truck pull up when you have no cash on you.

(It’s probably not that big a difference really... but still)

You guys still have ice cream trucks?

This is by far and large the most civil forum I'm a member of, which is actually saying a lot. Most threads elsewhere derail into name calling and trolling. I haven't run into the 'typical Talkbass' expression, but I have read a few threads that have turned into arguments--nothing that would change my opinion about this place. Arguments are just part of life.

I left TB for about 3 years because of:
Know-it-all's attempting to out-geek everyone.
Non-stop douche commentary.
And the Mods were exceptionally harsh in the olden times IMO (much looser now).
Today, I take it all a lot less seriously. Scan a lot, ask questions when I need to, ignore certain things that used to stick in my craw.

What I love that I consider Typical TalkBass:
NEW BASS PLAYERS! I feel a responsibility to help out any way I can. Plus, there are a handful of members who are the welcome wagon and always roll out the red carpet, I love them.
Surprising questions with surprising and thoughtful debate and solutions.
Pictures and Audio from our members!
Pictures of basses!
TB Humor!
The sense that overall, we love bass, and we love sharing that with like-minded people.
There really are more kind and open minded people than not. It's just that they are typically quieter than the unpleasant ones. :)
Manufacturer/Builder reps and Recording Artists and true experts willing to hear your grievances, suggestions and answer questions!
The best classified section ANYWHERE.

I love TB more than I hate it and I would miss it if it weren't here.

Typical Talkbass is when we are discussing the merits of playing the mothman through mixed cabs and whether that or a P-bass with flats is the best bass for metal, but then Nobody chimes in about pinching off a tort loaf in the toilet while playing with his Jerkweasel because he ate too many carrots the night before. But while the mods are banning him, another TBer has started a thread about getting scammed on a delivery from Guitar Center because he ordered a pedal which didn't come in a box.

...And therefore the drummer got fired.

@Joe Nerve: Great thread! :thumbsup:

Over the years, here's what I have observed of "typical Talkbass"...

ACT ONE:
An amp manufacturer hints at a new amp coming soon.
TB'ers freak out. OMG! OMG! OMG!
A gazillion posts ensue about the amp's tone before anyone hears it.
Is it available yet? Is it available yet? Is it available yet?

ACT TWO:
The new amp finally becomes available.
TB'ers freak out. OMG! OMG! OMG!
A buying frenzy occurs.
A gazillion posts ensue about how awesome this new amp is!
It's the most incredible amp that has ever been created!
I have finally found "the one!"

ACT THREE:
A few months pass.
The miracle amp is plastering the classifieds.

TWO YEARS LATER:
Lather, rinse, and repeat with the next "miracle amp."

Ahhhh we humans. We're so predictable! :D
