Seriously, we have our moments. But, all in all, I think we get a long pretty well and look out for each other. Bickering about dumb stuff is part of our collective charm.

Oh, I absolutely agree. And one does not have to be on Talkbass long before discovering that close reading is not a universal strength.

I’ve been playing Gibsons since I was a kid. They’ve always been my bass (and many years later my guitar) of choice. And I’m pretty up on things Gibson - both the instruments and the company. But man! The high handed tone and the cliquish “in crowd” vibe over at TLBO has to be experienced to be believed. I gave it a brief try and didn’t find it to be a very pleasant place to hang. But that’s me. YMMV.

True. You don't expect the warm fuzzies from a group whose moderator uses a pic of Briscoe Darlin as his avatar. Hmmm; having said this, perhaps TB should adopt as its collective avatar and spiritual leader Ernest T. Bass.

That's the beauty of it, Joe. With each passing birthday we not only get older and better, we get meaner. And the beauty of it is, because of our advancing years people let us get away with it!

Chiming in on page 20 of a thread, w/o reading anything past the OP, thus either repeating something that has been said 50 times already, or thinking you are beginning a conversation, when in fact it has already passed you by 18 pages before.

how about when anyone asks a technical answerable question talkbass is the friendliest place around. But when you express an unpopular opinion, cue the hate and the trolls who try to prempt themselves by calling the OP a troll. Everyone is an expert here with few students, so anytime you ask the experts something, they know the answer even if a million different ones from a million different experts. But say something that is against the grain, and prepare for warfare. For example, my thread about high tension being an arbitrary quirk of stringed instruments evolution/history was about a simple technical subject, but the level of emotion, trolling and vitriol made one think it was a Israel vs palestine. Granted, i should have ignored the trolls, as they dragged my into the negativity cycle. But why is such a benign topic so prone to anger? Because everyone is an expert, and experts are the ideal, so say something they don't like and you must be a disabled troll, because trolls are going for an emotion reaction, and that's exactly what happened, so it must be your fault. I have had two threads closed like this, one about amps, another about tension, both are technical topics, and both angered the experts so much that they had to be closed.
