Might be worth waiting until you can buy the black Schaller roller bridge, it will just be way better.
I like the Precision bridge cover but only on a Fender Precision.

I've been trolling for one for 5 months with one result an oem Kramer branded one for too much money.
They have them at Arkansas Musicworks.
Expensive but available.

Alright fellas, I need some string advice...Looking for a suggestions on strings for my red Patriot bass. I am typically a Stainless roundwound fan...the brighter the better. Lately I have been using Black Beauties on my Cirrus and Millenniums, and am really happy with them, and may put a set on the Patriot too...but I am afraid even the black beauties will still be too harsh for it as well. It currently has DR Hi Beams, and I tried some regular ol' D'addario XL nickels on it too...still pretty brash. Maybe I need to go for a more subtle nickel string? No flats...can't do it. This bass sounds and plays amazing, and its really becoming one of my favorites...maybe its "Rick-ish" aspect that I am both loving and not loving..LOL...any suggestions?

I love stainless rotos on my patriot, but if you’re looking for something a little more mellow without delving away from rounds, I really like the fender pure nickels, especially for the price.
My go-to string is GHS Pressurewound. You can get the grind of rounds but without the top-end zing that I think gets in the way of the fundamental. Here's a sample from my mahogany Patriot from a couple of years ago:
Since that video, I've replaced the saddles with brass ones that seem to tame the highs a little more.
I think you were reading my mind ...I have a set of Pressurewounds on a Jazz bass here and I was considering pulling them off the Jazz today and trying them on the Patriot

+1 for the Pressurewounds....put them on my Patriot a few weeks ago. Very, very happy. Recommendation from @ATLbassist ...thank you sir.
One of the biggest things I noticed is that all 4 strings are dead even in volume and sound character....really stood out to me from the get go. Very good strings for the Patriot.

I ran a set of the DR neon green strings on my Patriot (technically RicRiot since the mods) so it looked the part for my 80s cover band. As far as I know, they are the same as the Black Beauties, just green. Gotta say, once they were very played/worn out, they sounded like a set of old flats-kinda short in the sustain department and thumpy. I kinda liked that on that bass, but I have other basses with old, thumpy flats, the Patriot (RicRiot) is here to RAWK. The bass now sports a set of D'addario XT, as I had to check those out. Decent string. They sound like 85% bright EXL right out of the box, and stay that way for a looong time.
Is it me, or are you not contradicting yourself a bit? You prefer "brighter the better" stainless strings, but now want less brash and subtle nickels? And, why are you dead set against flats? Flats can sound like everything from bright stainless roundwounds to completely dead old school flats, dependent on the brand and construction. They also don't have to feel like bridge support cables (Chromes)… they can be supple, and smooth as silk (LaBella LTFs).
I say all this because I despised flats for 32 years, and only played stainless rounds. I should have tried more than just D'Addario Chromes!! But, now (thank God for Covid boredom) I have tried almost every type, and play nothing BUT flats. They just feel too good, have no string squeak noise, and I don't have to worry about wearing down my fretwire.
Try some EBMM Cobalt flats 40-95 or 45-100 or 105, dependent on how tight you want them to feel. If you don't think they sound bright enough for you, sell them in the classifieds.
This is so true. The cobalt flats are nearly round wound bright right out of the package and stay bright for quite some time. It took about 1.5 years (approx 60+ hours play) for my cobalt flats (on my Foundation) to mellow into flat wound thump. Chromes took like 3 months (about 20 hours) to thump.
I would gladly swap my black 3D4 for a chrome or nickel one, as long as it works fine and isn't super pitted. My black one is in 8/10 condition, just a little scratching and plating wear from 20 years use.
I too am becoming less and less interested in regular round wound strings.
For some reason, I am not feeling the Bridge Support Cable thing on Chromes.
I've got Chromes, Ernie Ball Cobalt Flats, Fender 9050 Flats, DR Black Beauties (old set and new set), SIT round wound and they are all pretty nice.
My old DR Black Beauties sound fantastic, the new ones need some age.
The Cobalt Flats are pretty new and still feel a bit sticky but sound great.
The Chromes are broken in and sound and feel great.
The Fenders are broken in and sound and feel great.
Am I not feeling the tension because I have my basses set up with my strings pretty low at .070 at the 17th fret?

Well, I did not contradict myself intentionally....LOL...but might not have been clear. I meant, normally, on all my other basses, and historically I have always loved stainless steel rounds on all my basses. Its just that darn Patriot...there's something about that bass that makes me not like my usual roundwounds on it...but I am going to try the Pressurewounds from my Jazz on it.
I have had MANY basses with many kinds of flats on them, and have tried to appreciate them (Chromes, Cobalts, and others) and get used to them, but its not gonna happen. I have one P bass that has a set of old GHS Precision flats on it...and that particular bass sounds great with them, and if I need "that" sound, I have it. Otherwise, I REALLY dislike the feel of flats as well...I too have been playing for over 30 years but...nope.
I have Chromes on my SF Fundation and TI flats on my Millennium 5 string. Everything else has D'Adarrio XL's which are nickel rounds.
String selection depends not only on personal taste but music style and the amplification you use. My favorite cabs are Aguilar GS 112's/GS 212 and lately I have been using Aguilar AG 500 or AG 700 amps. The amplification you use is a big part of your tone.

I'll add geometry and physics (string tree height) neck angle... string tension... string eight
I always shoot for insanely low action with loooong sustain... most bass players can not play my gear.
Strings I have installed include TI Jazz Flats, GHS super steels, Ken Smith contact cores, DR Long Necks, Sunbeams and so on... seems like the entire setup is the consideration
