So, I have a before and after project here.

1992 Peavey Fury before... in process.... and PV Thunder-Fury after!

Frets on the Net made the trim ring out of aluminum and polished it.

If you're happy with it -- then the case is closed, and you got it at your price. :)

I was at that shop the day the seller drop it off along with an upright and two custom basses (a five and six-string). The owner asked for my assessment and I told him that his original asking price was too high based on other specimens I've seen in the wild. It's probable that you paid close to what the shop did. That bass sat in the shop for two years so that's why I called it out and asked you what you thought. Obviously, setup and preferences are going to differ from player to player.

No need to feel bad about me having a pawn shop a stone's throw from my home. I've gotten plenty of gems below for next to nothing. :smug:

I used to work in a pawn shop that was also a new musical instrument dealer while in college. The gear I scored working the front lines there was insane. This was the early 90s, so the vintage craze was in effect, but pre internet, so pricing was much better.

The pawn shop down the street from me closed a few years ago and I miss it. Having a pawn shop nearby was a blessing in many ways. I was able to get money in a bind, and got some killer scores. I've always LOVED pawn shops back in the pre-net days. Now, they think they're boutique stores or something special and ask unrealistic prices. At least that's how it is here in California. I know where Dr. Cheese lives (Chicago ?) their policy is to price things for the amount of the original loan. I bought his red Foundation from him for what he paid plus a finder's fee. I believe the total was $76 bucks or so. This was about a year ago, too, so I'm not talking old days.

Totally agree. I've been doing a lot of recording and decided I wanted to start mic'ing my cab. I started looking at some different ones and decided on the EV RE20 but they are $450 new and $399 when Sweetwater has a deal. I found mine at the previously mentioned pawnshop for $175 and they let me put it on layaway for a dollar because I do lots of business with them.

What I learned was -- Pawnshops are not defacto experts in everything they sell like most conventional stores. They will buy items for what they think they can sell them for. They often use third-party metrics (Reverb, Ebay, CL, and Amazon) to help them make that determination.

I think there are a number of reports about that version of the Forum and Forum AX saying they are really heavy...like (T40/T45-ish) 12-13 pounds heavy.
No crazy big heavy bridge, no heavy Titan tuners, body doesn't look huge, the three chromed brass knobs are heavy, and it has a pre-amp.
Otherwise, I can't really see why it would be a tank.
So I wonder what the body is made out of, my guess would be poplar at that point in Peaveys timeline.

I had a 5 string and the body was ash. It was a great bass but it weighed too much for me. I think 12 pounds or more is what it weighed. Mine was sunburst and was easily identified as ash.
