I've owned a few Firebass 700's and "gutless" has NEVER been a word to describe them. They have always been Mesa Boogie / Trace Elliot loud.

I had a Firebass too...it was plenty loud! I never used it with my 412 though...but my T-Max was always plenty loud through it. He did mention the DDT light was on a lot...think maybe the limiter was making it sound thin?
I found that to be the problem when I first bought my Fender Rumble 500 head...I was using way more gain than I should have, and it was cutting all the b@lls out of my sound the louder I turned it up.

I don’t think so? I mean it had a lot of clarity and punch. But I guess bottom end gut wrench.
You can see my settings with cobalts on my G bass. Bass @ 4:00 Mids in the middle. Or would drop to 11 o clock
And treble flat

Are use my ears and I turned my gain up to right before it was clipping and then slightly below just so I have a little more headroom in terms of input so I can Dig in a little bit more
For me? I thought kinda the same. But even with DDT button off. It wasnt that tremendous….Although I have a pro bass 500 sitting at the border I need to pick up I’ll probably swap in a new 12AX7

Stop it..LOL! I dig my Rumble...I don't have the head anymore, I traded it for the 500 combo and I have no complaints...light and loud!
Sorry, I probably have an unhealthy bias against Fender bass amps. I worked on way too many Fender amps at the repair shop. (mostly guitar amps, but still)

That's a beauty!! Similar to mine but with a maple board. Make an offer is all I can say.
I happened to see this one in natural yesterday during my random browsing. Rosewood instead of maple, but could probably be snagged for less than 700.

I saw that one, too. It looks nice in the pictures, but almost every project I've picked up from Goodwill had a gooched neck. I love my '83 Foundy, but I had to throw in the towel and get an '85 neck after a year of trying to straighten it out.
Good to know about the necks. I’ve been hesitant to pull the trigger on one of those deals, but the Rudy Sarzo they also have up there now had me willing to roll the dice.
The prices are always WAY too high because people want to say , "Look what I bought from the Goodwill." It's at $327 now, I think, and there's a chance it's OK, but GW has ZERO return policy. I'm SURE bidding will be over $400 for a donated Foundation. I'm all for free market, it's just annoying. I fell for it too, a couple times ! Shame on me. One time I bought a Peavey Darth Vader guitar and was sent a broken $10 guitar. I DID get my money back ONLY because I got lucky and the guy I was talking to at Goodwill was a guitar player. The other time I bought a DOD Grunge pedal for $35 bucks ; It was non-functioning. No refund.
That Foundation on Reverb is gorgeous, but $775 ??? If it were a 7ender, it would've been sold already, AND guaranteed it would be inferior in many aspects to a Peavey. Like the dead horse we've beaten many times, it's all perception, blah blah blah...
So, are the days of even $300 Foundations a thing of the past ? Is the party REALLY OVER for us ????
We had a good run....BTW, remember any of you looking to trade your rosewood Foundation 4 neck for my maple neck on my Foundation. It's perfect, too. Not looks wise, but where it counts.
Unless the truss rod is broken, warped neck.com can most likely fix it. They made my wack-a-doodle Dyna 5 neck look as straight as the day it came off the production line. It had ski jump, a twist AND fall away at the nut.
I was just on the Peavey Forum, and Kodiakblair said I can switch my BXP neck for my Foundation neck and it's a direct fit. I'm gonna try it !!!

I've thought about it because it would be nice to preserve the '83 neck. The truss nut seemed pretty well bottomed out, so I added several washers. It still ski-jumped like no-ones business, so I think it's probably toast. I still have it, though.
