Are any of you the new proud owner of this perfect specimen ?

I must confess , I purchased it then cancelled my order prior to it being shipped @ just changed my mind , GC said the pickups are DiMarzios ? Not sure if GC relisted yet , Anyway may be worth a call to the GC Jacksonville, FL store if anyone is interested , As seen 1 original tone knob was changed to a toggle for some reason ....

Just kidding. So what about DiMarzio's is bad ?
I'm just glad it almost stayed in the family. That gives us all a chance when / if you get tired of it. Goes for all Peavey basses.

I should have at least tried it out and simply returned it if it wasn't a keeper, It is STILL AVAIL ITEM#

So I did get my Foundation back from the luthier a while ago. At first I wasn't really happy with the job he did to fix where the plastic tugbar had been but now that I've had it out again, it doesn't seem as bad as it did at first.

To see what it looked like when I bought it see here....


And here is the repaired bass. I don't think any one would notice it unless they looked closely. Not from the stage for sure. Other than a complete sand down and refin of the body, that's about as good as it will get.

That's beyond beautiful. I hope to one day have one like this to match my mahogany/rosewood foundy. I think that patch for the holes is pretty reasonable, but everyone has their own opinions/expectations for patchwork.

Biased my VB-3 today. Had an issue with my matched octet, but Gary and Robyn at EHX sorted it out for me. LOVE LOVE LOVE the sound! This weekend is the special 200+ house party. Likely going to run with the VB-MA with it's Ruby Tubes though just because ha! Still, love that VB-3 blue! I used it last year at this gig and man the color pops at night! The red of the VB-MA will be a good changeup of color and tone!

I present this ol' 72 J bass. This has been through the ringer. Before I got it in 1992. It had been stripped and refinished natural (I assume it was originally sunburst?), the electronics replaced with EMGs, and played A LOT. I eventually replaced the EMG J set with the Barts and J Retro, filled the holes with screws and put a BadAss and Hipshot Xtender on it.

However, look at what's hidden under the pickguard! This had quite the life the 20 years before I got it. None of this bothers me (including the rough battery rout), as I'm never getting rid of this bass (as long as I'm alive)...

A good bass is a good bass. Resale value means nothing if you don't want to sell it. I'm sure if this bass could think and talk, it would wonder why the last 30 years have been so easy vs the first 20 years. haha.
Plus, this was my first J bass and it solidified my belief that I'm a J guy, which also informed my future Foundation/Dyna love.

Looks great! I totally missed these amps when they came out. There was a few years I stepped away from bass, I should have been paying some attention to what was coming out.

I still see the VB-3 occasionally come up for sale. If you find one make sure it comes with the foot switch and grab it while you can. The VB-MA, maybe the most rare unobtainium Peavey there is as only 50 or so were ever made, and the most unique along with the VB-3.

My 87 Patriot needs a new pickguard and I got the invoice from pickguard planet and its a bit pricey.
1- Can anybody attest to that company having good enough product and service to warrant a big price tag?
2- Does anyone know of a good alternative?
3- Does anybody have one for sale?

I have used them and was happy with the pickguards. Did a black single-ply for the Forum Plus and a black/red/black for my Ibanez RB630 (which I eventually cut up to make it a virtual T45). Both looked great and dropped in perfectly.

As with anything hired out, it's sort of pricey. It's not difficult to cut a working pickguard, but it does take some skill to do it so it looks good.
The catch is that one can't find $15 Patriot pickguards online from China, as it's just not an iconic bass. I was able to get $10-15 pickguards off of ebay for my SSS Strat, a HH Strat and my 72 Jazz bass. All dropped in as they should.

Check this out: the 72 J posted above... Found this $10 Green/White/Black guard as well as the $15 abalone one from a Chinese company on eBay. Both lined up and installed like they were factory pickguards. This is one small benefit of customizing a Jazz Bass vs an 80s Peavey.

How pricey is it ?

I removed the PGs and control cavity plates from all my Peaveys then dropped them off at a Glasgow guitar parts place.
Brian made templates from them and added them to his inventory.

Single & most 3 ply costs £43.99 shipped to US, at $53 it's pricey .


You only make savings on the fancier stuff.


4 ply are $55 shipped. 4 ply Tort comes in at $56.50. Most expensive options are transparent and mirror finish at $61.40.

Patriot PGs are Cat 2.

These guys in the States probably know that and charge just over those prices so they can beat your guys in US sales while still making a large profit. Don't get me wrong these guys in California have a great reputation from all the feedback I'm getting but I'm sure they charge more knowing Americans have no tolerance for more taxes, wait times, or customs. That's showing contempt for their customers.

There are no taxes/customs to pay on parts coming from the UK or the EU. As for wait times , Brian's lead time is 4 days ; at Pickguard Planet it's 2.5 weeks.

Couple of year back a fellow TB'er needed a transparent 51 PG,by chance I'd lent Brian mine for a template the week before. I saw the "need clear PG" post so gave the fella the heads up; 11 days later he was fitting that clear PG to his bass.
