Single coil sits about 1" closer the neck.

The sound difference between the pickup design change and the one inch makes the Gen 1 Precision and the Gen 2 Precision sound different enough for me to have both.
I would rather have six different P Basses than five P's and a Jazz.

Two or three different 51P type pickups in '54 bodies with different string types.
Three or four different Split P basses with different strings.

I don't own any basses with just the one humbucker at the neck heel, working on making one with a T40 pickup though.
Progress is slow because my son (who does the routing and painting) works way too many hours a year.
The wood work is done, the painting will commence when he gets some free time.

51 slab jazz bass!?! What the?

Nearly everything I build is either a 51 slab or a variation on the 51 slab.

The Squier Paranormal interested me, though not enough to drop £400 and be stuck with an offset jazz body interested

Solution was just build one, only snag was pickups. String spacing is wider coming out the bridge, over all 57-58mm instead of the standard 54mm. With the body/neck done it was just a case of deciding on 60's or 70's position then measuring the strings. Spoke to the fella who did my A2 single coil, told him the job then left him to it. He suggested Neck is north pole A5 8.5k, bridge south pole A5 9.5k.

Can't complain at £100 for the pair

Hopefully I'll get time tomorrow to fire up the router and make a pile of sawdust

It's a fretless.

Bridge could have been placed for 32" or 33.25". A narrower bridge plate could have been used. Length of the pocket could have been shortened. Any one of those would improve the look.

I did not build this guitar. I just built the pickup . Just posted this pic to let people know a SF in 51 is available. Quit building guitar and bass in 2012 due to the frugality of 98% of players in the West.

I asked the owner/builder at Waterstone guitars that ordered it how he liked it after he had a few weeks with it and he said he was very pleased and ordered a set of Neo J pickups. He did not send any audio or video of the bass with the SF 51

Just clear coated a few Walnut Slant rings in standard rectangle. The Factory slants in black are plastic and one out of some ply I had. The Walnut ones are almost exact thickness of factory. Wanted to do some tests to see how long they took. I can sell these unfinished to keep cost down. Due to time /sanding . finished ones would be a bit more. The Walnut ones here were cut , sanded , sealed , sanded , clear coat X2 , sanded, then final X2 coats clear. Right now I have quite a bit of this walnut and plenty of plastic

Still debating I have single coils in my Grind V/ bquad 5 hybrid. Not alot of spacing between to route soapbars
But the stocks aren’t quite doing it for me still

I know you make Super ferites in a P format and soap bar
But would about a J?

I still have a set of peavey active pickups from my Randy Jackson bass I pulled out for Emg X pickups

Aren't stock RJ-IV almost identical?

Raise the action and play with a lighter touch? Im 64 lol...The clank lessened with 9050s...its a J bass on steroids...Steve Harris changes strings every night saw them in 82 with Scorpions...Rush in 76 and Geddy runs a sophisticated set up.

I can EQ it out mostly....i'll put the fret rocker on and see how the neck is.

I'll remind, the secret they have are dedicated staff... not gear. I have a setup that we put about 15 hours into just dialing in tone. Once it's all setup, we locked down all knobs.

In a studio, I can get a USA p to sound passable... live, it's the same bland "meh" that makes them legendary.

What are stings that have a good tone on the PEavey Cirrus?

Stainless with a good touch and setup

I picked up @Shagnum 's Patriot body. I ordered it on Reverb since I hadn't seen it here before.

I took a page out of @XsoGol 's book and ordered a medium scale Warmoth neck for it which should be here in about a month or 2.

In the meantime, I took the neck off of my Foundation just to test everything, and damnnnnnn this thing plays/sounds great.

I hope the Warmoth neck pairs just as nicely, but if anyone spots a patriot bass neck for sale, please let me know!

I'll throw an oil finish on the body at some point between now and when the neck comes in.

Happy holidays all...and Merry Christmas to me! I ordered a set of Matt's 216 neo pups for my KBX. Matt shipped next day and I had them a week before Christmas. My wife kept them under the tree until the 25th. I just got them installed this afternoon. Just test drove them for a good bit and boy am I happy. Massive tone, super punchy, clear and very even output across the strings. I kept the .047 cap that was onboard to see how that worked and happy for the moment. Matt sent me a new .047 and a .022 to try in case I wanted to. I've done enough soldering for today so I'm going to stick with the stock cap for a while. Can't wait to gig it. Alas, nothing on the calendar until Feb.

Sorry, I had still not cleaned up the bass when I took the pic. I promise I will. I do love the pole piece delete look. Thank you @Matt Kustom for the great service and product! Back to your regularly scheduled Peavey content.
