Did not get much from the VFL pickup due to this pickup being potted in the gummy impossible to machine goo that stuck to the wire on the bobbins so bad the coils were destroyed just trying to get to them. Thanks to @Bassinthemudd for sending the pickup. Here is the info I was able to obtain about this pickup. I don't think covers are available for this design. If someone knows about replacement covers please send a link. New pickups for these basses will have to be full custom unless there are replacements for covers.

Just kind of dropping into the conversation but...what are you doing to that VFL?

I feel bad the VFL was sent in and I couldn't get coil reads. Looking around to buy another one I found a shot of what looks like "passive VFL" The passive VFL readings look legit from the coils I see.

My "passive VFLs" in my late generation Foundation read 7.53K for the middle pickup and 7.67K for the bridge pickup.

Random VFL question...are these shells the same size (height-ish, width, depth) as a double Jazz humbucker shell
Afraid I can only comment on empty VFL shells here, no double jazz humbucker shells to hand.

These are the smaller VFLs found in 4/5 string Axcelerators and later 4/5 string Foundations.

Internal dimensions are 90mm long, 31.8mm wide and 17mm rising to 20mm deep.

This one tucked under the strings on my later Foundation 5.

Thank you @kodiakblair! I have the active VFLs in my koa Rudy Sarzo and they are just not doing it for me...do you know if the VFLs in the Sarzo are the same size as the ones you measured?

I'm thinking of having @Matt Kustom whip up something like Bill Lawrence's (I think he designed them...) Fender Roscoe Beck double jazzes to go in this bass to pair with the Aguilar OBP-3 onboard...

I had to pull the OBP-3 from my Modulus... was "too hot" to be useful... super tough (almost impossible) to maintain unity... sound guys hated it.

Update, more coffee worked :)

@XsoGol

The shells I have here match the VFLs in my RSB, 4 string Cirrus, Foundation 5 and 4 string Axcelerator.
Sold the later 4 string Foundation so I can't check against that though I'm confident it'd be the exact same :thumbsup:
Thank you so much sir! Coffee saves the day more often than not.

The Roscoe Beck style pickups were a collaboration between Michael Stevens and Roscoe and were originally fabricated by Seymour Duncan. This was for the Slant 6 when Roscoe wanted a six string bass. That bass was one of the first brought into production when Michael Stevens was hired to start the Fender Custom shop.
