That was the tricky part... without dorking around with redrilling (or extra holes) for tuners and/or bridge... yu then will want a different pickguard...

I do have a cheap hint on the string retainer.. heat shrink tube


The Pickups are original Barts... this will be silly.. the inital thought was to have zero white or chrome.. realized blacking out the dots would be boring... I was stumped on the frets

I saw a stealth Rick (probably the only 100% stealth) they were VERY boring looking... compomised by keeping the small details

So is this the one you have been working on? I can't tell from the pics if that is the BWBWB guard from PGHeaven, but whatever. That is sweeeeeeet!

I've gotten to know a few TBers -- periodically folks will send a much appreciated gift.

In any given day, I'll receive 20-60 notes wanting to banter Peavey USA, IEM or Church Sound... The Peavey guys always seem to be the most gracious.

A few years back a Tber asked which one I'd aways wanted... (we wer talking the semi-custom/special orders the factory used to do).

I'd commmented that there was a short lived run of painted neck Fury... very few are pristine... as far as I knew none were ever shipped all stealth.... biggest hold up were the tuners.

Within a month or so, Peter had located the neck on a trashed body..... I choked and bought it.. later someone else sent a link to the body... Peter had a redo project and sent the bridge... Geoff located the also freak late lined contour case...

It then sat for about a year....

A TBer heard wind of it and sent the black knobs off his bass... another one sent the tapewounds..... then someone else found the fasteners.... another peavey freak donated the non-peavey pickups...

A Tom then special ordered the trilam pickguard

The hold up was tuners... A Tber wanted a set of factory ones.. I basically told him that if we could identify a DIRECT (no drilling/modification) set that would install directly to the neck that I'd get him my chrome ones.

The intent was a BEAD tape almost subharmonic Thud machine with long sustain --- finally got a chance to assemble and try it.

You guys may chuckle as a hard core fender guy was the first to touch it - he has some very expensive stuff and is dedicated enough to have a rear window decal -- we may have him piqued on a Fury

Someone had asked on a price tag to do the stealth bass as pictured.

Figure $450-700 depending on patience and if parts are new or used etc.

Hardware was the trickier part

REceived another message regarding finish...

When I get dinged basses... I color the chips - not paint them... never use fingernail polish.

To do the black body, I disassembled it and used autobody techniques on it...... then a Colored Turtle Wax intended to minimize swirls etc.

SOOO glad you broke your own rule to post that... it is a beauty.... the stealth look is a great thing... the johnny cash of options...

In my never ending quest to find a $150.00 GV in a pawnshop I just left one I frequent that had a white Patriot with matching headstock and ohsc in really nice shape for the outrageous sum of $139.95. after a bit of haggling I left there with it for a benjamin. :hyper: Pics to follow once I have hidden it away from my wife for a bit. :hiding: ;)

Sweet buy! Always great to buy something for half the market price. A GV for $150 is quite a challenge. If you can manage that one you will be a god among bargain hunters.

While in the process of cleaning and restringing my Koa TL-5, the topnut popped off. Not being surprised at 20+ year old glue turning loose I got the Elmers and was going to put a drop on it when I noticed the alignment pin on the topnut and hole in the topnut step. This means the topnut was injection molded for the TL-5 only (at the time) and is a testament to the accuracy of the workmanship on these fine instruments. Although I've been impressed with Peavey's quality and attention to detail in the upperline USA products for decades, it's now at a new level.

I've disassembled hundreds of basses. The qc on these is by far the tightest. I have a tl here. In checking it today

I know its out there!
Recent finds that lead me to believe its possible;
Gbass (black sparkle) in perfect shape with ohsc $175.00
MM Sub bass w/ohsc $185.00
Ovation Magnum 1 $200.00
But hey I would be willing to go $250.00 for a nice GV! :D
