I just bought this Axcelerator off a TB'er yesterday for my son who's been wanting a 5 string bass.

Usually I bring home a US Peavey for myself and he grabs hold of it and I have to wrestle it back...I have a feeling the tides will turn on this one.

Nice Barney Bass, man. It should be a good one for him. Always liked that color.

I was calling it the Easter Egg, but Barney Bass is better. Not a huge fan of the color, but I saw him ogling a purple PRS last year. The smile on his face will be all that's important - until I steal it from him and add it to the US Peavey collection.

It's a pickup covered by pickguard material.

I find the triangle logo very odd-looking. Do you know what the thinking was behind that design?

There was a marketing push to "reposition the brand" part of this included temporarily ditching the "laser" logo

Dyna Unity's. The one on the left has a new set of pick-ups Bartolini's 9J1 Jazz Bass Bridge Pickup and 8S P-Bass Pickup. When Im done with the right one they will be twins with one fretless the other fretted.

I got one NOS in 1997. Still have it. I've changed out that awful gold hardware - looks great in black and chrome. I also had it rewired VOL/VOL/TONE which I prefer to VOL/BLEND/TONE. Amazing sounding bass, but I find it physically painful to play due to the ridiculously small neck.

Neither of those are U.S. models but IMO, the Cirrus is better. I had one a couple of years ago and it was really nice. Though I've heard that they moved where they make them now and they're not as nice. Mine had the gold hardware, and I believe they changed the hardware to black when they moved.

The Palaedium is one of my favorite US made Peaveys. The tone is full and round without being muddy. You can set the action ridiculously low without fret buzz, and it plays like a dream.

They seem to be under the radar for such an exceptional bass.

Whether it's US or BXP, the Cirrus is the top of the line Peavey model.

As far as I know, Peavey has suspended US bass production. That leaves two options - 1. unsold product at a dealer, which is getting hard to find. 2 - used

You can find US Peavey basses in almost new condition on the used market. I've bought 10+ year old Peaveys without a single mark on them. Indistinguishable from new. ebay is obviously the primary source. GC is the second best option - maybe even first best in pricing.
