If anyone is looking for a Black T-40, I found one at the Guitar Center in North Attleboro, MA. It is one of the earlier models with the toaster pickups (not the exposed blades) which I wasn't aware was available in black. Switches appear intact but all 4 Peavey P knobs are missing, and the paint is a little ripply by where you rest your hand. All else appears original, Grover Titan tuners and all, but to me it seemed a little overpriced at $450.

I know some guitar centers will ship used gear to other guitar center stores so you can check a piece of gear out, so give them a call it's worth a shot (might be able to talk them down a little on the price too).

I have no affiliation, I just know how rare this bass is and was shocked to see one in a GC, figured I'd share in case someone really wanted one.

I picked up a USA Fretless Cirrus 5 here in a trade.. What a nice bass! I had heard a lot about them but never played one.. Very comfortable neck, very light but solid.. the body is thin but no flimsy.. The bass came with some black tapes not sure which .. but it plays and sounds very nice. I took it to a rehearsal tonight and it did very well. A keeper for sure.

New Twin Bass Day!

Called GC Charlotte Sunday about a foundation on the used site for 119, and it happened to be a later VFL model in the same color scheme as my Super Ferrite model. I thought it was an ok deal, until it arrived today in the OHSC! Score! For about 140 shipped, I couldn't be happier. Playability-wise, it smokes my SF Foundation and absolutely annihilates my slant Fury (working on that!). The neck pocket is great, as are the frets. Level as can be. Needed a little truss rod tweak when I got it, but after that, it plays great.

My only complaint is that the foam under the pups is worn out, and won't let me raise the bridge pup high enough to match the neck's volume. But, hey that's an easy fix. Actually, I lied, I can also complain about there not being a bar retainer for the A string on the VFL model, but hey, again, an easy fix for sure.

Overall, I think it is a great bass, maybe even my number one now. Definitely between the two foundations now.

As far as the tone of the VFL's, it is just like everything I had heard: more modern and hi-fi sounding. Now, this isn't a bad thing, because it can do some cool thick bridge tones, and some deep neck pup stuff too. The SF's sound more aggressive and throaty to my ear, which is probably good for a band setting, but solo, those VFL's sound sweet.

Got the Green Peavey DynaBass Unity bass that was on ebay on its way to me now, looking forward to see if its a as great player as people are saying :D There's also a B-quad for sale localy that I'm considering to buy, it's insanely ceap for what it is, but I don't play bolt on basses anymore.. Anyone convince me that it is worth it?

I'll post pictures of the DynaBass as soon as it arrives.

Just picked up a 1987 Fury in white with a tortoise Chandler pickguard and Duncan SPB-2.

First impression was not good plugged in, muddy and compressed................ until I lowered the pickups considerably and then WOW!!

This bass sounds exactly like I envisioned a good P Bass with more punch......the SPB-2 sounds very good with the volume rolled back just a bit as well....doesn't get muddy.....yay!

Had a time adjusting the trussrod but finally it plays excellent and it has Fender 9050 flats that sound great.

PLUS it weighs 8 POUNDS!!!!!

I literally am stoked.....don't know if I like it more than my 85 Foundation which I have gradually tweaked to near perfection but the Fury is very good tonally and what a hot-rodded P bass should sound like with the SPB-2.

The Fury is noisy........so that's the final step

Congrats on your score! I currently have the Duncan SPB-2 in my all black Fury that's the same model as yours. I keep going back and forth between it , a DiMarzio Model P (DP122) and the factory PU. I'm leaning toward the DiMarzio. Been trying to work up the guts to route it for a P/J set of one or the other for about two years now and I really like the way the Model J sounds. You're right about the PU needing to be away from the strings. Same for the factory PU and a common set-up problem.

Woah, Did not expect this bass to be this good, totally outplays my other basses. (I even tuned my beloved Rick down to B because we have 2 - 3 songs down there, and the DynaBass will do the standard tuned tunes) I do want to give it SD quarterpounders though :P

I'm liking some Fender single-coils and an Artec eq, like I did for the Rondo in my sig-link. www.youtube.com/watch?v=pY9_309oBno . But still not quite my thing. Modded bass and original pups for sale....
