There's a stripped Peavey on EB. Lots of uneven and discolored grain

commonly poplar will be a wonky green/white... sometimes dark stain works...

It wasn't always the case when wood quality was tighter waaay back. A lot of instruments that were originally an opaque color usually don't have much to show underneath relative to instruments that are factory transparent finishes.

That G Bass was a score for somebody out there!

So I played my new (to me) 87 Patriot for all of band practice tonight, and I am seriously upset.

It played fantastic, and it sounded noticeably better than my beloved Fender Precision Special. The band agreed - the singer said "you need to bring this one to practice from now on".

To top it off, my back didn't hurt by the end of practice tonight, which it ALWAYS does when I play a Fender.

So, my $160 bass (with case) just blew away my $900 (without so much as a gig bag) bass.

I need more Peaveys.

Strange thing happened in Scotland this week. A Peavey came up for sale !!!
And it was in bad shape At some point an eejit had the idea to turn this T40 into a 5 string. Maybe had the idea but zero skills. I present the tuner hole as evidence


Coming in at equivalent 16 litre of Whisky instead of the usual UK price of 25 litre. I turned again to my good brother @mech for advice. A few parts were bought and this morning a T405 joined the ranks here in Scotland's Home for Wayward Peaveys . I hoping Rene in Holland has a spare knob as I ain't paying $50 inc tax/shipping or one from eBay

I followed mech's advise on positioning the single saddles.There's a boss on the underside of the bridge base plate you have be aware of when drilling for the saddles. A bit of filing needed to the height adjustment blocks to get string spacing and a better action. The micro-tilt gets used too. TR needed a tweak. That was about it

Regarding the Tuner ?? I really didn't have a lot of choice except go with that hole,the G does run up to it nicely so in a small way makes up for the wood butchery that'd went on. String tree was moved to avoid fouling the G string.

Does sound great with those La Bella flats.

@lowplaces - just found a new toy on Louisville Craigslist that fits this thread nicely - I now have 2 U.S. Peaveys, just got back from meeting the seller in LaGrange. I'll go post an NBD thread as well....
