There's definitely no battery in there, so they have to be passive ones. Not sure about all the extra wiring though, but again, I'll go through it this winter and figure it all out. I don't plan on changing the pickups as of right now, because they sound great.
If the P sounds good no need to spend twice the cost of the bass on a replacement.
@BTYogurt is that the original pickup wired passive? Do you just have it wired volume and tone?
Yeah, the last owner had pulled out all of the active electronics but left the third knob. Was an interesting surprise. My luthier cleaned up the wiring and we removed the unused knob, so now it's wired similar to a p-bass, volume/tone.

That's correct but Peavey got Schaller to clone the Dimarzio for the Foundation S, guess that's why it has the "S".

Thanks for the info everyone! For now, I'll just run it the way it is. It really sounds better than I thought it would. Even blended, it sounds killer. If I do replace the P pickup, it's good to know that I can source something close to the originals.

And my new-to-me Foundation S broke already...
I was playing it last night and messing with the tone knob, when the pot fell apart right in my hand. Not too big of a deal, and I was planning to go through the electronics anyway. At this point, it might be beneficial to just gut it and replace all the pots with an off-the-shelf Jazz-style control set. Still, I cannot complain for the price I paid.
These use 250k pots, correct?

Many times, they're just stampings folded over... they're very mechanical -- you can commonly reassemble them.
Agreed, it can probably be reassembled. However, when I have a pot go bad/fall apart, I see it as an opportunity to replace that pot with a push/pull to get more out of the bass. You can either do a series/parallel for the P pickup to get quasi J tones or a series/parallel for both pickups to get a thicker, boosted tone.
My 84 Foundation had a dodgy bridge volume pot. Installed a push/pull to do series/parallel for the pickups. I don't use it much, but it's there and cool to have as it really gives a thick, ballsy tone. Bass still looks and works as stock and when the pot is pushed down.
However, if you choose to redo the whole harness, experience with a J-type VVT has me preferring 250K linear tapers for the volumes and a 500K audio for the tone with the tone cap of your choosing. This opens up the tone a touch due to a little less loading from the 500K and also allows a little more detailed blending from the linear taper volumes. Of course, this is all based on how you like to run your controls, if you tend to run them all on 10 most of the time, it's not so important to get into the details of taper and value.
FWIW, my 93 Foundation came stock from the factory with 250K linear volumes and a 250K audio tone. Seems they caught on to what works smoother in application vs the Fender easy/cheap production mentality of ordering a pile of just one pot type and value for the bass.

For 30 odd years Peavey had an operation in the UK,started as distribution then branched into servicing,manufacture and R&D. As guitar markets differ round the world some Peavey products were never available in the US. This is one

For anyone interested....The inner workings of an Axcellerator Plus/Axcellerator. Found another preamp that will be used in a future project and needed to do a wiring diagram and pot values. I think the same pre is used in the 2nd model Forum and I may try it in the one I have just put the T-40 oickup in. Pardon me while I get my eyes uncrossed!
