Interesting you mentioning the DE Scorpio. Given it origins I was expecting a loud aggressive bass, what you get is actually quite a mild beast. It wasn't until I'd swapped pickups for super loud aggressive Entwistle Neos that I started to appreciate the stock DE. I strung both DE's with Rotosound Nexus, on the DE with Duncans the Nexus sounded nice. On the DE with Entwistles ? OK it has at least twice the output but Man did those strings sound terrible,way too bright and harsh.

That's when I realised my mistake. The DE Scorpio is aimed at a wider audience than the rock crowd Oh great necks on them BTW. Great looking bass, has that Phil Lynot thing going on I'll move on the Entwistle enhanced before the stock one. You can get them for peanuts so if a PJ is on your list it's one to consider.

that's the kind of reply I read TB for, one justifying my suspicions! this dovetails into what my homework has lead me to believe, that these can be superb full tone range workhorses and that experimenting with strings, PUs, mods, are crucial to getting the most out of them. inherently it really is a versatile bass, and yes damn good looking, I think it'd be perfect for the '50s/'60s/'70s if set up as I hope to for an old school vibe.

You hit the nail right on the head The Entwistle one is strung with flats ( EB cobalts ) in a heavier gauge than I normally use. A stock DE with say La Bella Low Tension flats would be a winner for old school The pickup swap I did wasn't really needed. The Alan Entwistle pickups are popular over here in the UK so I gave them a go.

Centre of the SF pickup is 29" from the nut,that's for both the 1st gen Fury and the T-20.

How does that gel with most other P-basses. My single coil P-bass is 27 3/4" from the nut.

My 1987 Patriot is 29" from the nut to the center of the pickup.
My 1987 Fury (split P) measures 28.5" from the nut to the center between the two coils.

Is the Slant Fury a short body? ...the Patriot body is a shorter length than the rest of my basses.
The slant of the T-20/Slant Fury pickup surely effects the sound, as opposed to if it were mounted straight across.
I assume that the Slant Fury and T-20 sound exactly the same as each other, the pickup is the same in both, right?
The T-20/Slant Fury pickup is a lot larger under the pickguard...more mellow sounding says our friend Mech.

The standard split coil P bass is usually centered right at 28.5" from the nut on most every one I have measured, including my Forum Plus. Sometimes they might vary up to .25" in either direction.
I once measured a Patriot with the PU centered 29 11/16" from the nut. That's pretty much where a Ric bridge PU is located.
The slant T20/Fury seems to emulate the split coil's EA vs DG string reading. I'm assuming the slanted PU is about 28.5" from the nut to the center of the pickup (in-between the A and D strings)? I haven't had one in front of me to measure.

How does the Foundation bass sound with flatwound strings, and what sort of tension do they put on the neck?

I have 45-105 Cobalt flats on my 84 Foundation. Sounds killer, pretty standard tension. They are about 2 years on the bass and have broken in nicely. The SFs have a little edge to them, but the duller sounding flats really compliment that.

Considering were all very active in the US peavey thread this week I have a t40 question. Played on one before and love the playability but can I come close to .P bass sound? I didn't have the chance to play around for long enough.

On the one I measured, the T40 neck pickup is centered at 25 7/16" and the bridge at 31 1/16". Both are kind of far away from the standard 28.5" of the P bass. You could pretty much drop a properly located split coil P pickup right between the factory pickups! Those locations just don't have the same harmonic sound of a P bass. The T45 PU is right there at the P location and emulates a P fairly decently in humbucking mode and kind of sounds like a Ric bridge PU in split mode.

It actually read 28 3/4 inch from nut to centre of pickup (inbetween A/D). Like you state ,1/4" is no big deal but when it's an inch or more difference then it's a big deal

When it comes to T40s I never go passed full humbucker mode. Strictly "plug 'n' play"

What punch/sustain strings are you folks using on your Millenium/Cirrus (I normally play exposed core stainless)
