While that T-40 is nice, I have to say I'm drooling over that SUNN amp behind it. Fire in a bottle

The Sunn (or Fender) 300 is VERY sweet!!! So pillowy!!! I recently AB’d the Fender 300 against a ‘75 Fender Super Twin (180 tube watts), and bought the Super Twin. The owner of both said I can get the 300 later this year, and I’ll probably do what I can to make that happen.

They can be found for below 1k. I’ve seen them as low as $650.

As for headroom.... YES!!! Insane amount! My friend’s 300 had been left with the volume set at 3, when I borrowed it, and I thought I blew my SWR Big Bertha’s 15s with the first note (open E). Luckily, she survived and I rehearsed at about half that volume. The band loved it!! And, I sent the owner a gif of a person falling into a pillow top mattress, LOL!! That’s the best way to describe the amp, and he totally knew what I meant haha!

The next week I tried the Super Twin. It was best described as an angry junkyard dog, on a chain. With some gentle handling, I can get close to the same warmth as the 300. But, the snarling dog is easily coaxed out, and that sound won me and the band over. I haven’t tried a T-40 through either amp yet. But, the Foundation kicked butt through both.

I made the hole for the pickup, in the pickguard, using a drill and file. It turned out better than expected! Then I started routing. The borrowed Dewalt 618 router died on me shortly after starting the job. Evidently, they go through magnet rings VERY often. And this one has less than and hour of use on it, SMH!! I am currently waiting on Loctite 680 and a magnet ring to arrive.

I have been going crazy with the idea of a RickRiot and found an 87 black and maple Patriot that should be a good platform. I should have it Thursday night, but with gigs all weekend, I may not get around to routing it out until the 2nd week of October as I will be on a biz trip the 1st-5th just to come home to 2 more gigs on the 5th and 6th. I have the 3 way switch, football jack plate and extra Super Ferrite all ready to go...

Which reminds me...
Peavey Masters, when did the Patriot go from the wider nut width to the narrower width? My fingers are crossed that the one I found is wider, but narrow is cool with me, too.

It will have 2 volumes, 1 tone, same capacitors, w/ one volume being a push/pull series/parallel switch, jack still located on the front. If that doesn't flip my switches and adequately turn me on, I'll move the jack to the side, use the hole for a 2nd tone pot, and try your suggestions from a few weeks back to make it more Ric-like.

PatRic, that's great! I call my Dyna Bass (tuned BEAD) DynaBead. Makes my bandmates giggle.

I'm considering the series/parallel option, too, as it really smokes on my Foundation. IF the pots in the Patriot are original and working fine, I'm gonna try the simple scheme of switch/volume/tone and see how it goes. If either pot is bad, I will install a push/pull to do series/parallel and/or try the switchable high pass .0047uF 'vintage' cap on the bridge PU.

Another option I ponder is dual stacked pots. I could then drill another jack and do a Ric-O-Sound type thing.

I dunno. A lot of this is just going for some of the gimmicky aspects of Rics. I have bypassed that vintage cap for two of my friends with 4001 Rics. They prefer the fatter bridge tone, as do I. Also, Ric-O-Sound would be pretty fun, (one of my mentioned friends uses this all the time) but I know I would maybe use it once or twice at home and probably be done with it.

You should be able to get stainless steel screws of that size at an Ace Hardware. They won't be chromed, but they'll fit until you can find chromed screws.

My Dewalt router repair did nothing (insert angry face emoji). So, I went and bought a Ryobi and went at my PatRic project, even though I was falling asleep while driving home from work earlier. Night shift woes.... blah blah blah who cares. Anyways, I couldn’t stop until I was done routing... 4 passes of a little more than 1/4” each, I would estimate. Painters tape and sharpie mark the spot for the 3rd pot (push/pull series-parallel volume). Now, to sleep a few hours, maybe 4, and start another day. Some spray adhesive and heavy duty aluminum foil will shield the new routes and pickguard area. Add the pickup Mech sold me, and the new pot and cap, and I’ll be done.

Observation: like all of us, I’m getting old. I actually wore a mask for breathing, so I wouldn’t breathe in the sawdust and paint particles. AND, I wore eye AND EAR protection!! Soooo NOT rock n roll :-( but F it, I won’t wake up sick with itchy eyes and ears ringing.

I am a disabled Vet due to hearing loss and associated hearing woes. I was a good pistol shot so they put me on the pistol team...no hearing protection. I wear hearing protection ANY time I must use loud tools. I always use muffs when mowing my lawn.

I may have purchased two Foundation Hogs today. Reverb. One needs to at least have the stickers removed.

That makes three Hogs. I didn't even remember they made mahogany Foundations back when the earth was cooling. I played a mahogany Patriot bass in about '86 for a few weeks. Belonged to a friend. I tried to buy it. Nope.
