Fellas, I am dealing with some mental distress. I just bought a special edition silver Epi T-bird on Reverb for a stupid low price. I’ve played it through our high end sound system at church a couple times now, and I freaking love it. The trouble is, I like the sound of these TB+ pickups more than any of my Peaveys. I feel like they are hotter and have more character. It just sounds right in all the right places.

I actually don’t know. Best Bass Gear is really good about listing measurements. I would check there. I bet they would fit, but there might be a gap.
I’ve played a couple G&Ls in stores, and I think the highs are overpowering and maybe brittle sounding. Not a fan. These would be an upgrade in my eyes.

What Peavey basses?
I had an Epi T bird for a while and yes it sounded good but it was too odd of configuration for me overall and quality issues galore (Korean model).
Only 1000 got made so it's reasonably scarce.
I have a Forum that I’ve used as pickup testing platform. I have a Fury that I turned into a double P bass with unbalanced output pickups. And, I have an RSB Koa. I love all for various reason, I have some sentiment tied up in a couple of them. The RSB May be the most comfortable bass I’ve ever played, even if the pickups are a touch bland. I also wonder if a string change might help in come cases. I’m running flats or tapes on all of them except the T-bird.
I’ll play whatever sounds best. I just have identified as a Peavey player for so long, I was surprised that I liked it so much. The ergonomics aren’t my favorite, but it’s not any worse that the Ric I played for a while. And, it looks killer. I kind of wish I could put the TB+s in the RSB. I have been thinking of putting a preampin it.

I’d like to see the double P Fury! I’m having a special double P built by Carl Pedigo. He was Lakland’s magic man from the start of the company in ‘94. Now he is splitting his time with them and building his own basses.
Sorry im so uninformed, do you have Super Ferrite pickups?
My 89 Fury is the perfect P bass with a J neck....Duncan SPB1 vintage P but i could use any P pickup......overall its the necks on all 4 of my Peavey; 1st gen Fury & 85 Foundation (SF pickups), 89 Fury and mid 90's Foundation 5er (pickups are single coils but sound fine).
Just stellar necks....my amp, cabinet and pedal setup give me enough i dont need hot pickups....glad your T Bird is a good one!
That's exactly what I was going to say.
I had a Koa RSB and did not think it sounded that good either, but it's a really nice bass to look at and to touch.
I think Epiphone's new ProBucker #760 bass pickups sound great (like 1960's era T-Bird pickups) and would make the Koa RSB a fantastic bass.
@JEDI BASS It’s a deeper purple than this lighting shows.
@DavidEdenAria It’s a gen 3 Fury. No SF pickups in my arsenal. I wonder if those would be closer to the sound I’m getting with the T-bird. I need to get a Foundation or Dyna.
@58kites Thanks for confirming what I’m hearing. I really love playing the RSB. It just sounds flat. I’ll have to give those 760s a look. I don’t think there are more than two direct drop-in replacements for the VFLs, and I don’t know if they’re still in production. You also don’t see VFLs pop up that often. I wonder if Peavey would sell me a set of Cirrus pickups?
I have an '82 T-40 and an '83 T-45. What other American made Peavey Bass would be next in line to get? I tend to be attracted by natural or transparent finishes and prices less than a G.

So let me get this straight....T-40, T-45, Foundation, Fury and Cirrus all USA made? [edit: and T-20 as pointed out by @iriegnome]
Millennium started as USA made and then went to Indonesia? Probably made at Cort factory, perhaps?
Please forgive me as I am not all over the history of Peavey. I just think it is a bit weird that quite a few people look down upon the brand even when they were USA made.

Don't forget the little T-20 (MIA)... Love mine.. Love love love it.
I would go with a Foundation...i only have the 85 Black on maple myself with Fender 9050 flats...to me its darn near perfection and very simple....no preamps etc necessary imo if you have a good amp setup....some do the "series mod" but i dont find it necessary.
The SF Foundation is its own thing and plenty of character.
