I've a set 760-FS-B, 45 to 128. They have a sticker saying "through body",old stock as the newer one's code ends "-TB".

You know, that is a real good suggestion. There is a receipt in the bass case that shows that the strings on the Cirrus now are Ernie Ball 2836 Slinky strings. On my other basses I have not been happy with Ernie Ball strings. I have heard good things about the Thomastik brand strings. Thinking about biting the bullet and trying a set.

Fender 9050 SS Flats.....very good reviews by many, very reasonably priced... but not as thumpy as LaBella (i have both).....not too much tension imo and not too floppy with the action low.

I just swapped my Tobias Growler 5, natural, to a friend for his nice shape 2002 Peavey Cirrus 5 USA with a nice redwood front. I find both the Growler and the Cirrus played by themselves sound real nice, but, don't fit well in the mix with the two bands I play with. The two basses I have that mix well with other instruments is my Fender Road Worn 60's Jazz bass and my 1990 Fender Jazz Bass V Plus. I have heard videos of these bands, and thge bass sounds fantastic with those basses. But, when played alone, in my living room, the Tobias and the Cirrus have a "better sound".
I don't want to spend the money putting Bartolini pickups and preamp into the Cirrus, since I don't know how much better the Cirrus will be, and how it would then fit in with the mix.
Am considering doing a preamp change with the Cirrus that would not be reversable.
Am also considering making the Cirrus "passive" as a trial.
Just don't know how all of this is going to "fly". I think the Cirrus is a beautifully built and looking bass, but not happy with its sound.
Any suggestions are welcome.

I've noticed that when I get into a conundrum like you have when you have the "perfect" bass but want to change the hardware to chase a certain tonal characteristic or sound, that I just keep running in circles, only to wind up right where I started and out $400 bucks on parts and labor. I don't understand how the Cirrus doesn't sit well in the mix. I found that the Cirrus sits in the mix better than ANY bass I've ever owned and I've owned a lot over the decades. Maybe it's the amp or speaker cabinet you should be looking at. I play SWR and Mesa and am super happy. I mostly lean towards SWR and the head I use is the SWR Baby Blue II. It's rated at only 160watts but it's PLENTY loud for any band I've played in. For the big boys, I drag out my Mesa M6 Carbine. SWR cabs or GK Neo cabs is what I play.

Possibly a different mix you're sitting well in, they would not? Maybe you would be terrible in their mix also.

Am using a Gallien Krueger 800 RB and a home made fEARful 12/6/1 cabinet that I love.
My bigger gigs (not yet this season) I play through three single 15" cabs, all with JBL K-140 speakers.
Adjusted all night and could not be happy from bottom to top of neck.
Not giving up, however.
Also, one 2 hour gig and 3 half hour sessions killed the new Duracell batteries i had installed.
I removed the board this morning and checked for the 6 electrolytic capacitor values and that the preamp does turn off when plug removed.
You can tell a lot about a bass by playing in NOT hooked to am amplifier.
Acoustically, bass, alone, this bass sounds great all over the neck.

Weird!! I’ve played probably 25 gigs and another 25 rehearsals on the same 9 volt in my classic Stingray. And honestly, I’ve never replaced a battery in any of my Laklands either. They last forever!

any have a spare truss rod cover that fits the TL-5s and Palaediums? I've heard calling Peavey might work, or 3d printing . . . but is that true? Or maybe I could just cut one from a single ply pickguard . . . idk . . .looking for something easy.

Not sure about truss covers....I know the battery boxes on the TL's/Sarzos/Dyna's etc are nowhere to be found. I'd contact Peavey first and cross your fingers!

Wouldn't have high hopes on Peavey still having spares for products discontinued near 25 years ago.. Those TR covers were single ply so an easy DIY job.

Thanks for the info. I think two brand new batteries going dead with one 2 hour gig and three half hour playings in my livingroom tell of something wrong. Maybe this is why I have not been happy with its sound. I will replace the six electrolytic capacitors this week and try again. I will say, being redwood front, she sure is pretty. GK 800RB i happen to own as well.... and an Eden Metro converted to a head and Music Man HD-150....EV15L in TL-606 cabs and a cabinet modded Acoustic 8x10.

The Eden is likely my fav amp because it is very tube like but clean with 2 distinct channels (tube and SS with lots of EQ)....800RB is its own thing when dimed for sure!

Definitely do the electrolytics in the preamp but consider more than at least 1 string change as well.....Cirrus should be easy to get right but not sure about the 800RB.

You might play the Cirrus thru some other rigs once you are done with the electrolytics....Fender 9050s are where i would start or XL's.

Love all three. Selling the Millennium, because I rarely play 4 string bass and I need room in the closet for my recently acquired G&L JB5. No reason to keep a bass that I have played twice in the past year. Keeping the Milestone and a fretless Tobias Growler as my only 4 strings (Growler's days are likely numbered/still deciding on that one). Milestone only gets to stay because it was my first bass. It only received upgrades, because it will always stay. I am quite aware that the parts are worth more than the bass at this point (and the parts are not worth that much).

Yep. Played one at Sweetwater Gearfest next to the OCC Peavey chopper several years ago. Liked it, but not enough to get one (preferred the feel of my GV, though the Cirrus looked much better than Holoflake black).

I owned one. It was every bit the Cirrus my neck thru USA was. Unfortunately I was stupid and thought the grass was greener elsewhere.... One day I'll get another.

Welcome @kevdimmen to the group.

As it looks, the next one leaving will be to him. Very cool guy who’s wanted a cirrus for a long time.

If possible, I’ll get some deck recordings of it this weekend. I’m always cautious as processed signal (compressor/dirt/eq) is subjective.
