The issue of comparing the two basses was more than just the volume difference. I got no lows or highs - just mids. It sounds like I'm playing a guitar, not a bass. I had the bass on my amp on to 10 and nothing. I had the treble on my amp up to 10 and nothing. So it's more than just a volume difference; the Fury pickups are not working as they are meant to work. I talked with a luthier today and he will check it out next week and let me know what if anything is going on. I didn't want to do that but I'm not getting possible solutions for me to to explore here on TB. So I'm basically ending this thread and will work with the luthier.

I own exactly two basses that I gig with - both early 90’s era Peavey Millennium 5’s. They are a perfect fit for me geometry wise - best instruments I’ve ever played - and the stock electronics are surprisingly good (great) actually. One of my basses preamps is starting to get fidgety - I’ve had my tech look at it and do some work, but I can see the day coming where I have to replace the pre totally. I really dig the functions the stock pre has - the layout is a 5 knob format:
Volume
Blend
Bass
Stacked Mid /with sweepable frequency ( this is the Magic of the Milly pre)
Treble

It’s an 18v Pre, I believe the pickups (one J stacked humbucker, one MM) are passive however.

So - when the time comes to replace it - can someone recommend a suitable replacement? I’m very inexperienced with guitar electronics. I mean - I wired a passive Jazz once with internet help, and I can tighten a barrel jack and change batteries. I know the Nordy and Aguilar pres are well thought of. I’d be looking for a 5 knob setup, sweepable mids would be AWESOME, with a fairly aggressive tone. I don’t dig dark muffle, I want to cut through the mix when needed (again, sweepable mids)

Probably too much info but - thank you very much in advance for any guidance, suggestions, redirects, etc.

The Forum P/J that I bought a while back has not left my rehearsal room. It is such a great sounding and playing bass.

Well, obviously the logical idea would be to buy a milli board from Peavey, but they are discontinued, so that won't work. You could have a tech replace the pots (if that's the part that's going out) but I know here on TB there is a guy who makes custom preamps for reasonable prices and he makes a Milli / Cirrus replacement but I forgot who it is !!! Maybe you can search the forum or if he reads this he'll respond. If you ask, maybe someone has an extra one for sale, too. Don't worry, there are many solutions. Some might just take longer than others. I KNOW Peavey has Cirrus boards for $60 bucks but that's w/o sweepable mids.

I have close to 30 basses and maybe 5 SF equipped basses and an EBMM dbl humbucker Bongo. All my basses are very close in volume. I know because I take 2 to every show and pretty much never have to adjust my amp volume.

I agree that it's a pickup related issue. I played a gig yesterday with my Bongo as my main and my Super Ferrite Fury tuned half a step down for about 10 songs. That pickup is a beast! Very close to the Bongo on probably 9.5 volume with slightly boosted mids.

Personally, I think the Super Ferrite is one of THE BEST passive bass pickups ever made.

Hey Peavey BQuad owner's --- I just had the privilege of buying a new old stock Bquad !!! The "catch" is that it has some minor missing parts like neck joint screws, rear cover, and battery cover. Can someone who owns a Bquad trace the rear cover for me with the adjustment holes onto a piece of cardboard or old pickguard ? I figure I can go to Tap Plastic, buy a clear sheet and trace it myself, but it's the adjustment holes I'm worried about. It also has no mounting hardware. The preamp is wired in, but taped to the body to prevent damage. So, again, I need :
- Rear cover
- Battery cover
- neck joint screws
- mounting hardware
Thank you in advance for your help of any kind.
