Peavy fans is this a USA peavey? Guy says he painted the headstock black and used all black hardware (not sure if he has original or not) i dont want to tip him off if it is. Just wanted to know before i drive

My gut feeling says "no", based on the slight recess in the headstock and the two knob config on the body. Waiting for the pro's to chime in.
Thanks! Love that bass. Love the wenge neck! It's like playing a pencil, if any of you guys like a thin neck I don't think you can get one thinner or narrower. This one is a 1996. I need to do a little maintenance on it. Needs a new jack.
Yeah, I did it all myself. I bought it because I wanted a project after I finished my P Bass on the far right. What you can't see is the back of the neck. I left it natural and gave it the oil and wax treatment like a Musicman. Really shows off that 3 piece neck and some cool figuring. It would have been a shame to cover it back up with paint. I had thought about cutting the wood around the input jack where it was destroyed. I ended up cleaning up the area and rebuilt it using a structural wood epoxy then sanding it back to the correct shape. I was worried about potential shrinkage so the entire project ended up sitting for a year before I got back to it. At that point it was obvious that it was very stable and I got back to work on it. I painted it myself using The Guitar Reranch lacquer. Side note the poly was so thick on this that I ended up with a pretty sizable neck pocket gap going with the lacquer thin finish. I used Minwax Spray clear gloss lacquer for the topcoat.
Yeah someone had obviously lost the original at some point and made that cover. It was a little thick but I kept it. Every piece of hardware outside the tuners was corroded to heck and gone. Somewhere on the site here is a thread from a guy that restored one that was nearly as bad as this one and I used alot of his ideas with mine. One of which is the cleaning of all the hardware. He soaked it all in a pot of vinegar with a couple squirts of WD40. A day later and EVERY BIT of corrosion was gone! If you ever need to do something like that it is a great method. Ultimately I replaced the bridge, found one on Reverb. I could have used the original but I liked the "Cosmo Black" look and I couldn't replicate it. A note about that bridge. It is made of aluminum and coated with copper before it's plated. Well all you need is a little salt water, sweat for instance, and you get galvanic corrosion like you see there.
Anyway, I resprayed all the hardware black and after some sanding to smooth them out the pickup covers got some semi gloss. The trussrod cover that says Roadstar is actually made of brass and then painted at the factory. I did the same to mine but Sanded the paint back off the highspots so the border and letters popped from the black behind it then hit it with some clear. Really it came out very well. I like to work on stuff like that and hey, I saved a cool bass from ending up in a landfill. Hopefully it lasts another 30 years.
One more note about the fretboard. You can see how bad it was when I got it. Just terrible and dry rotted at the end of the board by the 24th fret. All I did was a very little light sanding and repeated coats of Planet Waves Hydrate. Worked like a charm. You can see in the photo how nice it came back.
I still have the original bridge around here somewhere. It was terribly pitted . I was building it back up some finish bondo, only thing I could think of. Only had one coat on when the one popped up on Reverb. For 50 bucks it was well worth it.

We have wandered off the Peavey path. Let's get back to the subject of the thread, please. If we don't we will start losing some of the folks who greatly assist us with their knowledge of Peavey basses.
That Black GV with the Mill Pre is just too freaking cool.

I got my Millennium 4 string back from the Luthier today and it plays much better. I'm waiting to talk to him tomorrow to see what had to be done to correct the issues. I may start hunting for a replacment neck in the meantime.
I'm looking forward to using it for a small gig this weekend.

Agreed. Looks like it might be that subtle black sparkle, which I love.
So often they were done in that coarse metalflake. Don't care for that. Mine is that common 2 tone sunburst. Kind of bland, but plays and sounds amazing.
I wished I had developed the knack for 5 string earlier. I'd probably have 1 or 2 more GVs hanging around.
My GV is actually a charcoal colour!
My (not USA) Fury V is out for delivery. I am a bit nervous about it too. I was in a music store yesterday and they have one and I looked it over and was not too crazy about it. It did need some small adjustments to make it play its best so maybe I'll be thrilled with the one I have coming. Photos and report in a day or two. All these gigs are getting in the way of my spending time here posting about my Peavey basses.
