Damn, Shrek, that's a killer deal ! Those newer Foundations sound AMAZING. Single coil passive VFL's. Total pro bass all the way. Records well.
Yes, well I don't know what else to call them, so I called them passive single coil VFL's, which by definition is contradictory, since VFL's are active, but it's shorthand speak.
Yep, also read that Mr. Peavey wanted to put DiMarzio's in them,
but they couldn't meet the price point that way...
so a set of DiMarzio's may be in there in the future,
after I get good enough with it to need 'em
That was the Foundation S,the P/J version of the Foundation.
Interesting to see this one has 5 screw fender-type bridge, and also still have the bar retainer. Most have peavey's weird version of the bridge, and I thought all VFL foundations had the regular button retainer. Interesting indeed. I installed a schaller roller bridge on mine, and I liked it a lot better than stock. But since this one has the fender holes drilled, I might have gone for a gotoh 201 or fender's badass ii copy. The bridge is the weakest part of these basses imo, but the pickups sound excellent and the necks feel incredible. For 75 you stole that guitar lol.How about two pics?

As far as the pickups go, I heard of people being able to use the humbuckers from fender blacktop precisions, and that they were a thicker, woolier sound, but the pickups in these are very good. I personally think i like them a bit better than the lauded Super Ferrites you see on earlier Foundations, but i go back and forth a lot on that lol
I wonder if the bridge is stock or an upgrade by the previous owner/owners?
Guess I'll have to look at more '94's to see if it was stock or not.
Although if a PrevO went that far, one would think he would have done the pots as well...
The retainer bar definitely looks Well-Used...I.E. Tarnished...some polish should brighten it.
Kinda wish it had the Triangle retainer...those looked Perfect for Peavey's!
I can't argue with the Sound...sitting here working on Pentatonic scale like I'm supposed to...
it sounds much better than my other 4-string, the Anthony Tsai Custom!

I had a peavey forum with the same kinda 5 screw bridge, so it’s not unheard of, I’d bet it’s original. The triangle retainers look cool, but I tend to enjoy the better break angle over the nut on the A string. Honestly I quite like the bar retainers peavey used, since the strings don’t go through anything, just under something, so there’s fewer witness points. My 91 with super ferrites has the same bar retainer and I’ve never had any issues, unlike the triangle ones that tend to snag if they’re not kept perfectly aligned.
I love how Rotosound stainless steels sound on mine, but I’ve also run fender 7150 pure nickels on mine for a little smoother, more subdued tone. It takes different strings well, so I’d experiment a bit when they get a little long in the tooth.

what I didn't know was it was a favorite of Jerry Reed, one of my favorite musicians!
"Eastbound & Down" featured no less than 3 guys (incl. Reed) playing T60's for major effect!
Then I ran across a little guitar called the Mantis...
Ok, I'm starting to get Major Peavey GAS now...
thought I was Over & Done after getting my much-vaunted Les Paul Goldtop...
now I'm thinking life would be more Playtastic if I could dig up a Mantis & a T60,
and hopefully score a T40FL fretless one day!

Finally got my T40 wired up, put back together, and set up with a 45-105 set of SIT Rockbright Stainless strings. These strings are admittedly new to me, but they sound great!
Because one of my pickups had a dead coil, I had to make some concessions with the wiring setup. I put the pickups that’s stuck as a single coil in the neck position, with the active coil on the bridge side. The bridge pickup is where it gets interesting. I wired it for both humbucker/single operation, as well as phase switching. Unbeknownst to me, when soloed in single mode, the phase switch changes which coil is active. I can definitely imagine the neck pickup being off for me most of the time, since I love those throaty snarly burpy tones you get with a bridge pickup, and the slight tonal difference between the coils is really satisfying to me. When the bridge is in humbucker mode, it really sounds great, especially with a pick. Of course, you also get the out of phase modes, but I don’t see myself getting much use from them, especially when I can just use that switch as a coil selector. I originally wanted a 2v2t setup like on the old jazzes, but the resistors seemed like they sapped too much tone for my liking, so now it’s basically a VVT setup, but with 2 tones. Not ideal, but I think I like it better than having a dummy pot. Altogether, I think it’s a good setup for the type of tones I like.
I also installed Dunlop straplock buttons so I can use my good straps, and honestly once I could wear it with my neotech mega bass strap, the weight doesn’t feel too bad. I mean it’s definitely there, but nothing like the nerve pinching 2 inch straps I’d been using so far.
I still kinda hate the black color, and will try to pick up a natural body at some point, but that’s entirely cosmetic so it’s not a priority. If anyone has a spare body kicking around, shoot me a PM I suppose lol

I have an obsession for wood. The musical kind.
Even though I spent a good bit more than the "usual" prices (still didn't pay the seller's starting price, though), I managed to snag another truly one-off Cirrus. I couldn't resist, because I've never seen another like it (hence custom shop designation), and I kind of miss my last custom...it was beastly. I was told this one's a 2009 model.
Anyway, specs are:
walnut body w/ flame redwood top
maple/walnut neck (doesn't look like purpleheart)
bubinga? board (don't think it's pau ferro, looks very similar to Rickenbacker)
black dot inlays, no abalone "C" inlay
Milly pre
Hipshot hardware

Did the seller tell you it is Bubinga? It does look like Pau Ferro to me. Pau Ferro can be quite dark or very light...sort of pink and yuky looking. Peavey typically used very pretty Pau Ferro. Here is the fingerboard on my Redwood top Cirrus 6:

Looks similar to your walnut one in the middle, but who knows. The seller contacted Peavey, and all they could tell him was the year it was made. Regardless, I dig the subtle contrast of the dots.
The basses are Redwood top on the left, Wenge in the center and Claro Walnut on the right.
I was looking at the bass you bought. It was an interesting build and I was tempted but already own the 3 Cirrus 6's in my photo and also another 6 with a see thru blue finish over a flame maple top. I usually play 6's but when I am in the mood to play a 5 I use one of my Millennium 5's.
Anyway, that is a very nice bass that you have coming and I am confident that you will enjoy it. Congratulations.

I stayed up late and finished the Millennium preamp install, oiled the fretboard, and put some new strings on my stockish 4 string. I'll wrap up the setup another night, it's probably not that far out of whack
