You wanna know how I know this club and Peavey's are cool? I never have money when something cool pops up. However, I have to remind myself that I'm blessed to have what I've acquired and let the chips fall where they may.

FYI - I just got some great news - The repair shop let me know my 1975 Ampeg V9 is ready for pickup after a year and a half wait. I cant wait to hook it up to my Peavey 412 TVX and cause mayhem and destruction.

The amp was DOA when I got it. I could've returned it but I really wanted it and it's a rare bird. The tech meticulously went through the amp and the shop only has one tech. Good techs in Denver are hard to come by, and I've gotten amps back sooner that still had issues from other shops.

Some people dont know how to be patient. I got a call at the shop from Peter Framptons manager one day, hebhad a blackface Fender combo with an issue and wanted to know our turnaround time. I told him I keep a large stock of parts for vintage Fenders, and I would get right on it for him and expect to have it back by the next day. It wasnt fast enough for him... Really?! I thought that was being pretty generous considering I had about 50 units in the shop at that point.

Agree, it's getting very hard to find good amp techs for vintage tube amps. My guy retired last year and really I'm not enamored with anyone in the area any more. Thankfully my two tube amps are ok at the moment.

Those are cool. I'm tempted to get a set-a set of 4 for the price of one original. The bonus is that these won't add 2oz per knob to the instrument's weight.

I've been thinking of replacing all my chrome plated brass knobs with black ano aluminum, fancy wood, or plastic.
I just took Hipshot A type chromed brass bridges off my Squier Tele bass and my mahogany P Bass and replaced with lighter bent steel basic bridges.
Gonna be looking at some Hipshot Ultralite tuners or Gotoh Resolite tuners for a few basses too.

There was a question about cirrus vs Millennium.

I've owned countless of both. The Millennium has a higher Q (for the audiophiles)... I find them to be more versatile... And the needed neck shins to be puzzling.

When i had the house fire... All of my modulus... Cirrus and usa fender stuff was left behind... A single Millennium was pulled

The last one I acquired is a Millennium Plus 5 and, much to my surprise, it does not have or need a neck shim. Every other Millennium I have handled needed a neck shim.

I kind of swing back and forth on the Millennium/Cirrus question. Seems I prefer the one I have in my hands at the time. I will say, however, that a Millennium 5 with TI flats is an incredible bass to play. The TI's have a reputation of sounding great but some don't care for the lower tension but the 35" scale of the Millennium takes care of that in a perfect (IMO) way. That said, my Cirrus bases with D'Adarrio XL's have some wonderful sparkle to the tone. Sweet, clear highs with no harshness and big round lows. Heavenly.

Like I say, the one I have in my hands is my favorite!

Millennium or Cirrus? Hmmm...

I'll take either one dressed down with a solid finish (single color with no fancy top). Both instruments have excellent ergo's and sound. The Cirrus has more booty but the Millennium has a little more bite. I suspect they made the Millennium as sleek as the Cirrus with a bolt-on neck. Hartley mentioned that the thin quartersawn maple necks were prone to move so they had to put graphite rods to stabilize the neck. The tilt feature on the neck works provided you used it for setup preference instead of setup maintenance. Not a neck you want to develop a ski jump on.

However, the Cirrus bolt doesn't suffer from these issues. The neck sits deeper in the pocket and sets level. The monorail through body brides helps get the string action lower on an already fast neck. Technically, Peavey should've kept up with both basses, while continuing to make improvements.

But when you look a gift horse in the mouth...(partly because of who it's from)

I didn’t know this vid was on YouTube until just a week or so ago. My trusty TL. Mix and sound isn’t the best. We were still working some bugs out on this tune back when this was taken and you can definitely hear them. Just thought I’d post it here in the club for some COVID entertainment.

Welp, got my new toy in the mail today. Plenty of pros and cons, but nothing super egregious. I think I’m gonna like the 2tek bridge, and the pickups and electronics sound really great to my ear. I haven’t been out to get new strings in awhile, so I don’t have a set to replace the well worn SS rounds that it came with, but it still sounds good. Not sure what preamp this came with, but it sounds more natural than most on basses in this price range, or as old as it is.

Unfortunately, the bass has some playability issues. The nut is cut entirely too shallow, and when I straighten the neck (which I thankfully can) the A string in particular is basically laying on the first fret. The frets could definitely be more level, but the dressing at the edges is perfectly fine. The neck tilt was engaged a good bit, but I prefer to use a true wood shim, so that will be installed soon. The tuners feel a little loose/uneven to me, and while I’m sure they’re fine, I think I’ll throw some gotohs on. I’m also going to get the tech at my Guitar Center to buff out the neck to a gloss the way he did for my 90s foundation. I’m sure a lot of guys would love how fast this neck feels, but a high gloss just works better in my hands. There’s also a pretty gnarly ding by the output jack, but honestly I’m not such a stickler for stuff like that as long as the price is right.

The kicker is I messaged the seller about the issues I had with it, and asked if they’d issue some partial refund to cover a new nut, and they offered me $100 back. So my already good deal might have gotten even better, depending on how much a new nut will run me. I’ll probably do bone, but might go for Tusq.

Congrats on the new bass. You already know how I feel about mine. You got the bass for a steal on the 2-Tek alone. The only gripes I have with mine is the hate I have for the Gotoh style tuners and the stacked knob turns both when I engage the high or low boost. Other than that, I've got no issues with it. I put it right up there with my Marcus Miller 4.

I'm not sure which preamp is sitting in it. Others may disagree but, that preamp makes the bass sounds like a modern double precision to my ears.

I love Thin Lizzy and thought about doing a black mirror pickguard for mine.

The preamp in the Axcelerator is one made by Peavey and it, along with the VFL PU's, sounds great. The Axcelerator is a fine bass. My only niggle about them is that I detest the Wilkinson bridge used on the 5 string version. The 6 has the wonderful ABM bridge but the 5 has that Wilkinson bridge.

Congrats! I came REALLY close to buying that bass. Glad I didn’t as it allowed me to buy a vintage Aria SB-R60 here in the classifieds last week.

BTW I’m digging that impromptu nut shim on the A string! I think the $100 the seller offered will easily cover a new nut install. If I were you I’d see what kind of package deal your tech might do for a set up and fret level while he has it. Chances are you’ll be completely blown away with a small investment. My Axcelerator is a KILLER bass as I think most of them are. Easily one of the biggest “bang for the buck” used basses in the market.
