As a newbie to this club, it's comforting to see many of you sharing your experiences and time with him. I must admit, I was sensitive to one of his responses about a Peavey project I took on earlier this year. Now that I've established a little collection of my own, it's easier to look back with a different perspective and understand where he was coming from...even if it was a short comment.

His knowledge and association here on the board will be missed.

This whole page with all the photos of Ronnie is very bittersweet. Like you said, Raw, it's comforting to see us all sharing stories and photos from the few that actually knew him. WHat an AMAZING collection.
I think this US Peavey Club also just has some classy people and there's always been something about Peavey people. I've always said we're the equivalent of Honda motorcyclists ; We're just NICE.
I've noticed over the years of being here that we are extremely passionate and protective of OUR brand Peavey.
The story 58kites told of New York accent vs deep southern accent and having to repeat each other in ordr to understand is so funny !!

...with that being said, my Peavey collection is pretty much complete. It's weird that I've gone from 2 Peavey basses to 8 in the course of a year. It would have been 10 but I sold one to @wild4oldcars and returned the B Ninety with the bad neck.

I'm building two other Peavey's and I'm holding out for a Forum 5 as my last Peavey.

Somebody removed the stock pickups and installed Barts. Which for me -- is a deal-breaker.

Removing Peavey electronics is likened to removing MFD's from a G&L...you just don't do it. Nothing wrong with Barts, EMG's, Nordstrand's, and other premium pickups. However, I tend to associate them with boutique builds and top-shelf production models.

Lot's of work went into VFL and Ferrite pickups. Their sound is 70% of the acquisition process.

I bet if that TL-5 would be priced higher if the stock electronics were intact. Everything else looks structurally sound and clean. Funny how "premium upgrades" can make an impact.

Hiho,I have only 3 Peavey basses.

84 Foundation
83 Foundation with 92 neck.Thanks to brother Blair for history on my black 83.
Of all the basses I have these are the only basses I have that are stock out the box.
All my other basses have at least one mod from standard and that says a lot.
Build quality,sound and playability are as good or better as my supposed quality basses and they come alive through my Orange rig-sorry to blaspheme about amps n cabs-tin hat on.

I love my mod job TL5! But, I also love SFs, VFLs, Barts (quality ones), EMGs.... all good pickups. I guess I’m not picky. I had to bring my blue girl back from the sick state I found her in with MK-1s and the matching import Bart pre that was dead. Plus, I’m more likely to keep a bass once I’ve nursed it and mod’d it.

This is exactly what I was thinking about when Chuck said that blue one @ GC had Barts in it! I love EMGs and that would be a perfect Peavey to put them in!

I got the EMGs used and they’re honestly fantastic! There’s a volume drop when you switch to SC mode, but heck... there’s a volume knob on every amp right? The bass sounds so good in humbucker mode anyways! I can’t imagine it being any better.

I think a volume drop is to be expected when going from hb to sc mode with any pickup.

I bought a TL-Five several years ago (3rd one I have owned) and it came with a Bartolini preamp on it. As much as I tried to like it i just couldn’t gel with it. Fortunately the seller sent me the stock pre too. I took it to a luthier friend and had him reinstall the original pre in it. I played it for about 30 seconds when I got it back and for me it was a big difference. Stock pre was much better sounding to my ears.

I own basses with EMG electronics and others with Bartolini. They sound terrific but they are great basses...Roscoe, G.Gould and Modulus.

I would simply prefer stock Peavey electronics. That bass probably still has the original preamp and I am doubtful that it sounds as good as it did originally.
