For those of you that have used the UA 610, specifically the solo version, to record bass with:
As I've been using the 610 to record a p-bass and a ray34 through the Hi-Z DI input, I find the preamp is not being driven that much even with the gain maxed at 10; ie: the "signal " indicator light only even starts lighting up close to 8, and hardly ever reaches orange even at 10, and there is only a moderate amount of saturation/thickness added to the signal.
To take advantage of full range of tones the 610 can provide with higher gain level, I have to either boost the signal into the DI input or go through an active DI into the mic XLR input.
No big deal, but I was curious to ask about other's experience since this seems to be a pretty popular DI+pre for bass guitar: I was expecting the gain range to be more "user friendly" when used with some bread and butter basses
