Just hoping all these aliens are humanoid and speak perfect English, like all the ones encountered in Star Trek TOS. That would prevent a lot of awkward moments...

It has only been six decades since man first entered space using chemical rockets. We have not even scraped the bottom of the barrel yet. It is hard to try to imagine where we will be in a 100 years, 1000 years, 10,000 years from now and so on.
And then pretty much nothing. Yes, we've gotten better at getting things to low earth orbit and keeping them there. We haven't figured out a practical way to get a human to Mars. Hopefully that will happen in my lifetime, but there doesn't seem to be the sustained will to achieve manned interplanetary exploration.
There needs to be an incentive to invest the many trillions of dollars needed to develop manned interplanetary travel, and, realistically, there's no benefit to doing so.
For now, robots can do 90% of what humans can do in space, plus a great deal more.
The idea of permanent human colonies on Mars is entirely impractical and would be a reckless waste of resources that could otherwise be used to improve conditions on Earth for the billions of people who already live here.
Consider that every experiment we've ever attempted on Earth to replicate a self contained colony on Mars has ended in failure. The atmosphere gets out of balance, plants die, the micro-ecosystems fail. The human inhabitants bail out. And that's with a normal Earth gravity and absense of lethal radiation.
We can't even think about sending human colonists to Mars until we can perfect simulated Mars colonies on Earth, with a safety net.

The only way or reason for manned exploration of the universe is 1. develop a propulsion system to travel vast distance in a reasonable amount of time 2. Have a pretty good reason to go and find a habitable planet for humans that has a breathable atmosphere and 3. resources to survive on. If we run into another life form out there than we'll have to cross that bridge if and when that happens, what they might be and if we can even relate to or them to us is only speculative at best, Star Trek and the like are just hollywood interpretations , we have no clue whats really out there till it presents itself

Imagine a 100 year push forward in space exploration, we send off the most ambitious mission yet, only to have run into another life form that destroys spacecraft and we never know what happened...then send another and bam, missing....gonna take a long time to fight our way thru the star systems thats for sure
There are limits to what we know about the universe. And it's pretty much the standard model and general relativity. Then there's stuff like string theory that attempts to bring it all together. We live in a world of boundaries and limits. Like the speed of light, nothing moves faster than light. Black Holes, no one knows for sure what's in a Black Hole, and to find out you have to go in one. By the way the fighter pilots are talking, these things seem to have no limits. And to my reasoning, beyond the limits of what we know, and we may never understand what they are. I keep thinking about Carl Sagan's flatland idea. "his only conclusion is that he's gone bonkers"

I have never seen one, but listening to a total of over four hours between Bob Lazar & Commander Fravor has pushed me from “space is infinitely huge.
