Somehow, got my dates mixed up. Thought I had a gig tonight. Kept bugging the BL to send setlist. Drive 40 miles to venue. Look inside and somebody else is setting up. Def not my band. I go back to my car and recheck calendar. Gig is tomorrow. Crap! Already bought tickets to see Avengers 4 at 4:30PM. Gig is at 9pm. Movie is almost 3 hours. Gonna have to hightail it right after to make it to venue in time for downbeat.

Yep. My weekend has started out badly already!

i got this.... been there:

Don't panic. This is what you do....

Go back inside---have a cheese burger and a beer--watch a hockey game--and pretend like you meant to be there.

I once had such a wild weekend that I forgot what day it was. I woke up on a Sunday morning & headed off to work.
I was both disappointed & overjoyed when I realized it was still the weekend.

Oh wait, that happened more than once, but the other time it was on a Monday. I almost missed work & it would have been a doozy if I had.

:) I hate when that happens.

A little over a year ago I had a wedding gig, 2 hours away. I show up. Hall is closed. Looks like a ghost town. I double check the venue name and have it right. Double check the date... all seems good... I panic. I'm new to the band, and break out in a sweat. Nothing I can do other than call for help.

The venue the wedding was at had 2 HALLS, in 2 different towns. The other was over an hour away. Raced my butt off, got there in time.

And that's why I always get to gigs VERY early.

And that's why I never type names into WAZE anymore. Addresses only.

REMINDER: Gig today!

:)

I never showed up on the wrong day, or a day late, but I did drive to the wrong venue last Saturday night. Still had time to make it to the correct venue for the load-in.

In all fairness, the night before was a late gig. Or maybe I’ve got the beginnings of old-timers disease. :O

The most important is :
Hide from spoilers !!

I am a BIG comics fan and already saw it. Please be careful

My wife and I drove through Spain and Portugal for a month and arrived back at the airport in Porto, ready to fly home one day early. ... The guy behind the counter said, "Better than one day late."

Did it. Flying from Australia to New Zealand. We left home saying to ourselfs (sic), "In two tuesdays we leave Perth for New Zealand. The problem is, we never checked dates, Tuesday had become Weds in Australia because of crossing the dateline on our way to Australia from the US. I have to say Quantas was quite nice about it; while we had to pay full fare to get the last two seats on Wed's plane, they gave us credit for the advance fare we paid for the missed flight, comped us a meal and even though the last two seats were in Economy Plus, we were only charged for the last minute regular coach seat.

I had a New Year's Eve sub gig where the band leader told me what hotel to go to, but unfortunately he told me the wrong hotel. My first hint something was wrong was when I noticed a polka band setting up instead of the rock and roll band I was supposed to be playing with. In the city of Dallas, there were about five different Harvey Hotels, all many miles from each other. Uh oh. What to do?

Called home and my wife said "you had a phone message; the band leader told me to tell you that you need to load in from the back of the Embassy Suites."

Wait - Embassy Suites????

Next door!

Not late! Got paid!

Fun moment the other day setting up for a club gig. The stage is near the main doors. In walks a guitar player we know, guitar on shoulder and amp in hand. Great guy and great player... but doesn't play for the band I'm gigging with.

Priceless look on his face as he takes in the scene on stage, with another band setting up. He was a week early.

I've never had this happen at a pub/club-type gig, but in the early 1980s had a private party where the hosts had hired a venue and gave it to us as "the Glenfield scout hall". The whole band turned up there, as did the caterer with a van-load of food, and the hall was deserted and locked up. As this was before the days of cell phones there was nothing we could do except sit around for a while and wait. Eventually the caterer broke out the food and we had a nice free feed, then left.

On the way home I had a thought, and drove by another scout hall I knew in a different suburb about 45 minutes away from the first one. There were a bunch of people there so I stopped and talked to them and, yep, that was where we were supposed to be. Got home and started trying to phone the rest of the band, but only the drummer answered. The others had presumably decided to use their suddenly-free evening to do other things. Oh well...
