For what it's worth, I used the BBE opto stomp but am now completely hooked on my Carl Martin Classic Opto. Transparent but Fat and doesnt have some of the limitations of the BBE. My band mates like the sound as well.

I was wondering if Bongo will update his review of the Keeley and include the 2 knob version which (some say) has been optimized for the bass - not sure when that occured).
I get a rich bass tone on my 4001 Rick (after adjusting internal trimpot - which may, or may not be an exact approximation to features on the 4-knob version). But the Bongo review is generally positive for quality/workmanship and it's performance with a 4-stringer.
The extra bonus for me is,...it's great with my Tele as well.

You might want to take a look at the Demeter Compulator. I haven't found anything that performs better.

Whoever said the 2-knob one was optimized for bass was smoking banana peels.
The reality is, Keeley tried to make a bass version a few years ago, and discovered he could not get acceptable results, so he said "forget it, there will be no bass version".There is literally no difference between the 2-knob and 4-knob versions aside from the location of the pots: interior or exterior.
So, what's ahhh ... smoking, uhm, you know, banana peels, like?

I love my Markbass Compressore (Thanks bongomania for your reviews!). It's always on.
That said, you can buy them for a reasonable price (and even steal 'em) at Guitar Center. Click on Used Gear. In the Gear Search side box, type in Keyword: Markbass, check National Search, and click on Search Now. Below is what I found. Call them. They'll probably ship them for ~ $10 CONUS. GC in WI shipped me a complete used bass for $10.

+1. It just works and I don't have to play around with ratio setting, etc. And it uses standard Boss 9V power. All around perfect for me.

Studio quality? maybe not, but for live gig usage, absolutely fine. the one I have has a blue LED and the -15db pad. I found that the 18v bartolini pre-amp of my Tobias could overdrive the front end of it, and that didn't sound to good. I compensated by turning down the pre-amps gain a tad.
I paid $61.00 used on the e-auction-bay site for it.
I may switchto a BBE MaxCom in my rack case for ease of setups. but that's a big maybe because I'll still use the Morley DWV , the BBE Mind-Bender and Sonic-Stomp too. I also use all those pedals for guitar!
