Unclaimed Property

Don't know how much they are for, by law they can't reveal amounts through the online claims process, but I'll be damned if I didn't find one in my name from Musicians Friend, and one in my wife's name from Bed, Bath, & Beyond.

No idea what they could be for.

I'll update when the checks arrive! No tacobell, but I definitely see a night at the local taqueria in our future...

Both checks came on Saturday! Less than 7 days, let alone business days. Pretty dang fast!

I got $39.05 from MF, and my wife got $23.46 from BB&B

Neither of us have any idea what transpired to cause them to owe us money, yet here we are.

We know it was our money to begin with (somehow), but that doesn't make it feel any less like free dinner!

Just wanted to follow-up on this post, and thank the OP for jogging me into action!

After a quick look at an online database--and a longer chain of communication with local government--I located a nice windfall from my late father's estate, to be divided among me and my two siblings. Quite a surprise, as the estate has been closed for some years!

Someone help me out here... seriously.
According to that website, I have a claim to the house that I sold 12 years ago..? How the heck do they figure that? I had a buyer and we did all the proper legal stuff so this should not be mine.
is this site for real?

Honestly Mike, I'm leery about this. It makes no sense. How can I have a claim to a house that I sold and was mortgaged by someone else for the past 12 years?:confused:
Oh well, I went and filed the claim for shnitz and giggles, we'll see what happens. If I do somehow get it, I owe you! :)

It could be a mistake. But maybe in the transaction there was a fee or charge that was payable to you that both parties missed? This could just be money sitting there from that transaction. Maybe an overpayment of interest, taxes, or other charge?

That's probably it, I think I read it wrong in my haste. It mentioned my old address and claiming property etc I took it as a claim TO that property. It could just be something related to that sale more than likely. That makes a lot more sense.
I need more coffee, the brain's full of cobwebs this morning :)

Haha, awesome. I can see it now, Relic read-fail and he's up at his old house with a printed copy of the page from the unclaimed property website demanding entry as he still has a claim to the land. :D

I'm owed $260, but odds of me receiving it are slim. It was some stock the my grandparents bought me when I was little, and the company went under back around 1980, so the stock value was converted to cash. I actually knew about this at the time, but my parents could not figure out how, or bother, to claim it. It's in both my name and my dad's, and they require both names to sign for the property in separate forms, but I haven't spoken to that guy in many years, and have no wish to start now for $260. Of course there is an illegal/unethical solution for that, but...
