I never really know what to make of the term "underrated" and I certainly wouldn't call many of the bands cited in this thread underrated. I know musicians back in my hometown (Buffalo) who are truly underrated and in fact have never really been rated at all!

Not to be a pedant, but I'm not sure that a multi-platinum band that's been around for 40+ years can be called "under-rated". But I agree that Dave Hope was great in Kansas.
I'll throw in Dave LaRue in The Steve Morse Band for good measure.

Mark Sandman Square in Cambridge is a very under-rated square on Mass Av half way between MIT and Harvard, right where Morphine played that Sept. day in 1994. Morphine leap-froged over everyone playing in Boston at that time.
Jeepers I didn't know so much was on youtube now, WMBR is the MIT station, a basement on The Charles river, which lots of people still have tapes of because they played "orgies" of everything an artist ever did, every kind of music. Some lasted days and days. It's the better college radio gig than Tufts because Tufts was underpowered, MBR was the station of record along with WZBC Boston College.

What are some under-rated bands with good bassists? I always liked The Afghan Whigs and thought they were a highly under-rated band. Their album 'Gentlemen' from 93' still gets into my rotation on occasion.
I really liked John Curley's bass playing and tone on that album. 'Black Love' from 96' was also a really good album from them. I do give them credit because the broke up and got back together and released albums in 2014 & 2017.
I'd like to hear what bands that you think were/are under-rated and deserved more notoriety and air play . Thanks.

One of my main influences musically and bass player wise. Played with these guys a few times and Davide Gentile is just an absolute BEAST
My choice is Karnivool...Some awesome bass playing in this band...Very cool!

Rob Wright - probably not underrated by anyone that's seen him...
Post Punk (also stylized as Post-Punk) is just the name of the style that distinguishes these bands from the Sex Pistols and their ilk. Siouxsie and Steven Severin were both members of the "Bromley Contingent," and while their earliest recordings definitely have elements of other punk bands, they're stylistically closer to other bands that fell into the "post punk" genre.
I won't lie, though, I feel kind of ill trying to prove the purity of punk music. I've learned that if you have to call it punk, it is not punk.
