same goes for Simon Gallup, Mike Mills, Peter Hook, the guys from Ned's atomic Dustbin ... Norman Cook (i used to LOVE the housemartins) ... Colin Moulding was a genius, and unless you are 35-42 and used to skateboard, you haven't heard him probably.
Always thought Gerry McAvoy kicked butt.

Gene Simmons is under-appreciated because he deserves to be. Rich and successful...yes, but a great bass player....no. You may like the music of Kiss (which apparently you do), but he definitely does not belong on the bass players 'A' list. Someone who does? Can you say 'John Deacon'?
Great as he was Chas Chandler absolutely refused to even pick up a bass in the same room as this guy when they were in the studio.
If you don't like the style of what they do, fastforward to 3:20 and try to see his picking hand as anything less than a blur.
Awesome! And very definitely unrecognised!

everybody always talks about Chancellor lest we forget OGT.
I hate hearing bout that overrated dbag.
Don't believe me, and don't like Undertow? Listen to Opiate.
It's their album before the other one.

.........I saw Slade (and Glass Harp) way back in the early 70's and they were seriously good! Best memory of them was when the lead guitar was soloing. He climbed up on top of his stack, played there a while, then did a full flip off the stack and landed on his feet without missing a note.....

how about Brian Ritchie from the Violent Femmes?
