The bass player on the Buddy Miles Live album should be a study for all electric bassists no matter what kind of music you play. That album is a clinic. Yup that's right that Album. S/B available on CD.
You know who truly is an underrated bass player? Chris Reccardi! thats right, the Animator/Illustrator/Musician who'se work you probably best remember as the theme song for Ren & Stimpy. http://www.reccardi.com/music/ His stuff has some seriously sweet basslines.

Charlie Daniels has had some great bass players. I was just playing along with "Trudy" this morning, real tasty. I've watched the volunteer jam from 74 or 75 a bunch of times in the last few months & I'm blown away at the tone & chops. I believe the guys name is Charlie Hayward.

Don't care if your a fan of their music or not, some of his bass line are works of art - dynamic, melodic, fluid, and very very creative. Perfect bass playing.
Listen to the bass lines on "Dancing Queen", "Name of the Game", and especially "Knowing Me, Knowing You" and I dare you not to smile!

I really love his sound in this vid:
but I can't find other vid of him who has same type of sound that I really love like on that vid. His light color fedora doesn't either. I prefer his black blueish bass.
If anybody know how to achieve that kind of sound - gear wisely - minus Tom's 'human factor'..please share it with me.

I don't know.... With my playing ability, it's probably better that I've not been rated!!!!!
A few:
I will say Victor Bailey, i dont think he gets enough buzz around him for whatever reason, just listen to his solo albums , he really knows his bass.
John Giblin, amazing unsung fretless bassist from Britian, check out his playing with Brand X (phil collins was on drums).
Rick savage from def leppard, awesome rock groove, hairspray god and all round top bloke you coan go for a pint with and talk about footy (not that i know anything about sports in gebneral)
Louis Johnson, just amazing funkster, yea anyone can slap mindlesly to oblivion but can they groove? Probably not....
Paul Jackson, i dare you to go and listen to the 1970's headhunter live gigs and not be blown away by pauls killer grooves and silky soul feeling towards the deep sonic dimensions.....im getting all hippy now better chime out...
