"Legacy" basses? What G&L Legacy? My impression is that G&L stopped making those something like 20 years ago.


If you mean the "Tribute" basses, there's no Tribute that I know of that costs anywhere near $950. Most Tribute basses retail at less than $700. And the Tributes have US-made pickups and electronics.

So if i pick up something i feel that fits me, but later decide i dont like, selling it is a nightmare.

Resell value of things bought new in GC or other large shops is always horrible. And more so for cheap brands.

Reason being that people don't trust it enough to create enough demand for the high number of items coming into the used market.

From my experience Ibanez consistently builds the best instruments for a large manufacturer over the years. Their quality is and always has been top notch as with most things Japanese. Other than that most off shore brands are made by Samick or a few other builders.

Ibanez doesn't really build guitars, do they? As I understand it, they contract their designs out to manufacturing concerns to build their guitars for them. Ibanez has their gear manufactured in a lot of Asian countries. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised that most Ibanez-branded guitars are not made in Japan.

The use all kinds of factories but famous Japanese Fujigen-Gaki has almost always been in the mix.

Most Ibanez instruments are cheaper and not made in Japan of course.

Don't buy and Ibeenooz, they're made from cheap plastic asians. Make sure you buy a genuine Funder or Givsun.

well, the other day i drove 30 miles to check out the G&L. The guy in the store gave me a few to play along with the Sandberg. Its a new company he said from Germany.It actually had faster action than the G&L and the price tag was 950. You can google them, not hard to find. Wasnt overly impressed with playability but did seem very solid. As far as extoic wood, BC Rich is making mahogony bodies, ESP has ash bodies instead of alder,there's alot out there (although as one of you posted who knows how the wood gets cured). I guess its my nad for wanting a thin feeling neck, as i recently found out is not very popular. Thats part of my search problem.

I actually thought the part about hog and ash being exotic woods was more quote-worthy.

True. The high end ones are still Japanese I believe. The non Japan models still blow away a lot of us stuff. Their quality process is the key.

Asian manufacturers easily outpace others when it comes to "hard" factors like tolerances.

But that doesn't make a thing in bulletproof paint and epoxied pickups that you could use in an armored limousine "better".
