Unexpected NBD: Squier Classic Vibe 60's Precision Bass

I went to the guitar shop near my house today to pickup a new instrument cable and eyed this Squier CV P bass on the wall. I've been looking at these basses for awhile and have been wanting to add a P bass to the lineup. The manager said he'd make me a deal and dropped the price from $379 to $319. I couldn't pass it up. A quick text to my wife to make sure she wouldn't divorce me and the bass was mine!
Other than the horrible tortoise shell pickguard, I've been quite impressed with this bass. I'm debating throwing some flats on it but will probably play the rounds it came with for awhile. This will at least get me by for a time until my custom Kiesel/Carvin bass is finished.

I have this bass. Added fender original 62 pickups and Labellas. I love mine. I am sure that I would have been happy had I left it with the stock pickups and maybe nickel rounds. I happen to like the tort pickguard. My poor man's Pino.
I left mine stock as well. I still have it, it's my only true P Bass. It's also tuned a full step down and only sees action on Fall to Pieces in our current set. But it's still a swell instrument nonetheless. Sometimes I'd like to see a little bit of a low-mid grumble bump, but I have other basses to do that. And the sound this thing makes is still good, so I don't see the point in changing it. But who knows, I have a Model P in my closet I might try.
That's what I paid for my CV 60's pbass. More than worth the money. I would grab it if I had the cash and it was close by. Hard to find a CV for that price now.
Make an offer! You may even get it for less! Is it red or blue?
I have to admit that the quality of Squier import instruments is at a very high level.
I recently had a Squier VM 70s jazz that was excellent. There just wasn't anything about it I didn't like; and I probably should have held on to it.
The ONLY reason it got traded off was for a deal on a MIJ Geddy Lee. I do have to admit to preferring the Geddy in quite a few areas. However; if it would have been a battle of prices for new-vs-new and on a budget for a competent instrument; I would have had no problem with the Squier.
I was also GASsing for the Matt Freeman; but never could put my hands on one local.
I'm at the point where I will not gauge an instrument or a vehicle by country of origin. My best bass is MIJ (Geddy Lee) and my best vehicle is MIJ (4Runner Trail).

That thing is beautiful, I love the pastel colors. I cant decide if I like this Mintish body (for lack of a better term, sorry) or the pale yellow ones, or the off white ones.... ah sheesh, I like em all. Only problem is I'm a 5 string guy. I gotta get one of those though.The stock pickup was not bad, but I enjoyed the Lollar I put in mine:
I played it for a year before giving another TB'er a super deal on a killer P. This was my first Squire and the bass that convinced me that basswood can have excellent tone.I remember liking the neck contour but like yours, it had too much clear coat on the back of the neck. A few minutes with one of the green scotch brite pads will smooth it to your liking. Enjoy your new bass!
I was watching a video of Michael League where he was using them on a PBass he had. I liked the sound enough that I thought I'd give them another try since I had a set lying around. I was finishing up a mod on a PBass and figured "what the heck?" I had tried them in the past and didn't really care for them. I also had a set of my favorite rounds in reserve in case I still didn't like the chromes. But on this particular bass, it was like magic. So I'm leaving them on.
Cheap China made Tort pickguard but good quality.

If OP feel overall Stock pup + Round string sound fine, stock tuning mechines hold in tune, stock electronic (Alpha pot)no noise/hum + roll smooth, hi-mass bridge serve you well....... just keep it Original.
Change string is more noticeable sound changing over changing pickup. For better Vibe, get a Tube Amp head is greatest idea than swap pickup.
I spend some money to upgrade my CV 60P, from Stock pup,fender original 60 pup ,fender Pure vintage 63 pup , return back to Stock pup (just for temporary) and waiting for SPB-1 pup.
From Alpha pot to CTS pot ~ nothing different.
From stock 683J china cap to .33uf , 225P.047uf , 225P .068uf, Snake oil Russian .1uf cap and currently with Fender .1uf Vintage WAX capacitor.
I found stock 683J ( .068uf ) is fine and close to .1uf Vintage spec .
From stock round to ECB81, 760FL , 9050L and Sadowsky black label flat now.
From Stock pickguard, Fender US black pickguard, China made 13hole tort (Ebay) and now China Made 13 hole Mint Green pickguard.
From Stock hi-mass bridge to Fender Vintage threat saddle bridge*.
Add Fender Pure Vintage Chrome pickup cover and bridge cover set.
(picture show below is my previous Curve chrome cover and wider Squier stock bridge cover )
*If you find your CV 60P pickup's A is over loud and G is weak sounding even your pickup height is correct (4mm height for vintage pup). Suggest swap with a Fender Vintage Bridge (need filler and drill new hole). The Vintage Bridge not only make overall sound more organic and balance, it still keep the sustain like hi-mass bridge too.
I am happy and enjoy with all modified, put the stock pup back last week, just wanna see how it sound with Sadowsky flat . Yes, it sound great to my ear, vibe sit between old school 760L and modern ECB81. Good choice for looking Vintage-Modern vibe.

That is the way this bass came from the factory. I have one exactly like it I got for $299. What year is yours? I bought mine a few months ago as new old stock. It is a 2010. That's why the discount. Sounds better with them. I have that same bass and the flats sound great. But, that is subjective.
