Unexpected NBD

My sister and I (and our families) took our parents out to a nice lunch in town today, for Father’s Day. Cards and gifts were exchanged and some great food and a little wine was had.

At the end, dad mentions to me that he has something for me too but it’s back at the house. I was a little surprised since typically gifts go up the dad chain and not down, but I’m not going to argue. I figured it was probably a bottle or something, so I pack the kids up and head over.

So, I was a little off the mark with that bottle thing.

Dad decided to hand down his bass, a pretty badass Stingray Special HH in dropped copper. He’s a long time guitar player and picked this up during COVID to fool around but never took a liking to playing bass, so I guess this is the next best thing.

Hope all you TB dads and kids had a great day together.

Had to come back to this. Considering what these cost your Dad could have easily sold this to add to his retirement income. Just an amazing gift from Father to Son. Wondering if he would have given it to you had you not been a Father yourself? Just Wow!

Ha, I told him as much! I know what he paid for it (I “consulted”) and mentioned a while back that he could likely get a few hundred more. He’s been complaining that he just never plays it for a while!

Fortunately dad is in pretty good shape so I can accept without guilt on the condition that I use it on stage. I gig a lot, so there’s plenty of opportunity to meet that obligation!
